UN Secretary-General Guterres Condemns Terrorists Attack In Nigeria, Killing Of Over 170 Kwara Residents

The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, has strongly condemned the deadly terrorist attacks in Kwara State that left at least 170 people dead.

The attack occurred on Tuesday when armed terrorists invaded Woro community in the Kaiama Local Government Area of the state.

The terrorists killed no fewer than 170 residents during the onslaught, injured dozens, while several others are said to be missing in the aftermath of the violence.

Residents accused Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration of ignoring repeated distress calls and security warnings months before the terrorists stormed the area and massacred the people.

Reacting to the incident, the UN chief, Guterres, in a statement released on Thursday by his spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, expressed deep sympathy with the victims and reaffirmed the UN’s support for Nigeria in its fight against terrorism.

The Secretary-General conveys his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and to the people and Government of Nigeria. He wishes a speedy recovery to the injured,” the statement read.

The UN chief also reiterated the organisation’s commitment to standing with Nigeria against terrorism and violent extremism, stressing the need for accountability.

The Secretary-General reiterates the solidarity of the United Nations with the Government and people of Nigeria in their efforts to fight terrorism and violent extremism and stresses the importance of bringing the perpetrators to justice,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, multiple residents who spoke to SaharaReporters on Thursday said community members had consistently alerted traditional authorities, local government officials and the state government about the suspicious movement of armed strangers and their presence in nearby forests, but no meaningful action was taken.

According to two residents who spoke separately to SaharaReporters, youths in Kaiama had raised the alarm on several occasions after noticing unfamiliar armed men camping in bushes surrounding their communities.

“Before these attacks happened, our youths went to the traditional ruler many times to report that strange people were gathering inside the forest close to our villages,” one resident said.

“They did not only stop there. They also informed the local government council and the state government. Everybody knew, but nobody came to protect us.”

Another resident confirmed that the warnings were escalated to state and local authorities but were allegedly ignored.

“We reported to the state government and to the local government authorities that terrorists were around us. We begged them to deploy security operatives to clear the forests,” the resident said.

When Christians where crying of genocide, the Muslims were denying it's occurrences in plateau state, benue state, taraba state, southern Kaduna State, Nigeria state, etc.
Now it's kwara state,people tighten up and slaughtered like sallah ram 🐏 😪 💔 😢 😔.
It's not anyway close to what was witnessed in plateau state on a daily or weekly bases.
In fact, if I shared some of the videos 📹 of the gruesome murders in plateau state from 2001 till date, the world would apologise to plateau people for down playing their sorrows.

World attention has been drawn to the matters. Tinubu is cold on state police matters angry

Personally, i prefer having State police, Sheriffs at the LGA and Neighbourhood watch(because of rural areas) all given automatic rifles.

Citizens can get license too

Notice that they didn't call any special session for you.

They didn't

Yet Nigerian Palestinians will jump around in happiness when the same organization summons a meeting because Israel took out 3 palestinian terrorists.

When we talk about insecurity, APC will attack those claiming insecurity saying they are politicizing it.
Now is before our eyes 👀 now.
Everything is not politics.
Let the world 🌍 know that Nigeria under Tinubu is a killing Field.
Nigeria needs urgent military help to stop insecurity.
The Nigeria security Agencies have failed .

Don't just give statements condemning the act!
Point accusing fingers at the president for his inability and irresponsibility to protect his citizens!
All president bulaba does is to make blank threats to terrorists who neither fear nor rate him and travel out of the country under the guise of bringing investment to the country!
A useless president in a now disgraced country!

So just like that 170+ human beings just died like that not due to natural disaster but coldly murdered in their homes.... This seems to be the height of it in southwest recently.... It's a dare which shouldn't be taken lightly else in the next few months another such attack might happen which will clear the path for these monsters to settle in and that's it..... Unfortunately both the president and governors are only concerned about 2027.... If not I expect all South west governors should be meeting and collaborating and pressuring the federal on necessary support. It's well

Unfortunately, jagaban of Borgu is not concerned about insecurity, as long as he squeezes out more revenue from us to hit his target in August and brag about stopped borrowing.

Obinoscopy:

It is very evident based on our ethocentric politicking.
Tinubu’s unseriousness in curbing this menace has nothing to do with ethnocentric politicking of turn by turn rotation and zoning of public office in local, state and federal governments both in the legislative and executive branches.

The unseriousness has everything to do with Tinubu’s incompetence and cluelessness.

Maxymilliano:
The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has explained why he delegated some members of the party to respond to questions posed to him.
According to the former Lagos Governor, he adopted the delegation method “to show team-ship”.

Tinubu spoke at the Chatham House lecture titled: ‘Nigeria’s 2023 elections: In conversation with Bola Ahmed Tinubu’, monitored by The Nation.

At the lecture, Tinubu after his opening remarks, assigned Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai to speak on how his (Tinubu-led) government would address insecurity and asked the Director of Strategic Communication of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Dele Aleke, to respond to the question on oil theft.
