One reason I dislike Nigerian police, Nigerian justice system. A rich man can accuse his employee wrongly and get him arrested. The police won’t investigate they just detain you and before you know it, you be transported to prison. And years will pass.

My dad who was an ex-soldier was arrested like this by his employer because some persons stole from the company he was working in as chief security officer. But he stayed just 3days and was later released after much pleading from my mum.

My major concern is what happened to the clause “ of an individual is innocent until proven guilty and no person should be detained in a cell for more than 24 hours.”

In law, the burden of proof is on the plaintiff to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt.

In this specific case, because an inverter was missing does not automatically mean that the defendant stole it.

You totally spoke my mind. He is definitely not innocent but the employer who accused him simply lost interest in the case and left him to his fate.

There are so many of them in prison like that. They would commit an offence like stealing but because they have already disposed the stolen item and it is no longer recoverable, they are abandoned in prison indefinitely

You are only partially correct. That they could not prove it beyond reasonable doubt that he stole doesnt mean he didnt steal it. You cant prosecute the police because they lost. They presented what they assumed was a sufficient evidence but the Judge didnt agree. No crime was commited by the police or the employer. They cant judge their own case and they didnt take laws into thier own hands. They approached the court .

Are you people saying everytime the police lose a case in court, it means they are criminals and should be sued?

Theft is a bailable offence now. Nigeria judicial system shall.may God restore his lost years

Property was stolen, they reported to police and police charged the culprit to court based on their investigation. Did the employer take the laws into their own hands? That there was no sufficient evidence to convict does not mean he didnt steal it.

Who will buy back the inverter now? Maybe the business even folded up because of the theft. So on what basis will you sue the employer? For reporting their stolen item to the police? So they should have kept quiet and congratulated the staff for stealing the property?


That police lost a case is not a sufficient ground to sue them. They are doing their jobs.

You are right. The story could be a false one or, at best, embellished to paint the Employers in a bad light but then it is also possible that the employers could be that petty one that want to get back at this guy and use the usual Nigerian big man tactics of using the Police to show you they are bigger than you?

In 3 years, no formal charges brought and you feel comfortable with that knowing that the guy is still locked up?

As for the Authority, there are a hundred and one cases as this on their hands but since the Police and the Correctionals are what it is one can only congratulate the guy on his freedom and also the Lawyers that got him out.

And then, it is possible that he did what he was accused of in the first instance.

3 years is a lot in anyone's life, so let him gather his thoughts and move on with his life. Being locked away could, in fact, be a mercy from God for him.

The lawyer should help him sue the employer and claim damages that they both will share. Lawyers are not meant to be broke in this country.

If you were an incorruptible Judge in Nigeria, would you ignore the dynamics of power between the employer and the accused in this case? It is clear that the prosecution knowingly relied on false information and ignored exculpatory evidence on purpose. This exactly is the point. In fact they acted maliciously based on self interest. No due process was followed, what happens to investigation before prosecution? The only evidence they have was false testimony from the a bitter employer who might not even be missing any inverter.

I am a Christian and Im not supposed to rejoice at someone's death but if this guy decides to get such a boss killed and its in the news, and I see it, I won't have bit of pity for such a human.

Taking a whole three years of someone's life away by injustice should amount to death sentence. More reason people like me will never be a President of this country.
