You can't use only collation center as metric to rate one country above another...
Re: Compare A Collation Centre In Nigeria And In South Africa. by Ihaveleftnaija: 11:13am On Feb 08
If we want the same standards and annual budget South Africa has, are we willing to pay the price they are paying for all the development they have? That's the biggest question. South Africans pay 40% and above in taxation, are ready for that or we just want the beauty and class without paying the price tag for it ? You cannot be this organised and developed without the budget to match the standards. Let's pay the taxes first and complain later if the government doesn't deliver.

Bro, stop defending the indefensible.
Nigeria budgets hundreds of billions of naira for every general elections. Run your checks.
Nigeria has spent billions of dollars in organising elections since 1999.. To argeu that the lack of quality in terms of how elections results are tallied in Nigeria has anything to do with funding is jejune.
It has nothing to do with funding. Money has never been the issue..
It has everything to do with corruption and mediocrity..

Thank you for your attention to this message

You can't use only one metric to conclude anything here. If he had zeroed it down to elections alone that a different case. And even at that he still has to make a comparative analysis in other and different areas. Just because they have a fancy looking collation center don't conclude they are better.

Some of us still went to school small even if we no know book. And we shouldn't let our hate or non support for government make us criticize blindly.

Just because of fancy looking collation center someone concludes a country is better than another and you think that makes sense. Or want people with a critical thinking mind to accept that?

It's a good response from the organization. But I expected them puncture the argument about poor network coverage, and also express their readiness to work with Inec to ensure seamless e-transmission of results

Stop defending criminality.

After UK, US, and India, Nigeria spends the most on elections in the world, yet this country has the worst electoral outcomes and is the 4th poorest in the world.
Re: Compare A Collation Centre In Nigeria And In South Africa. by GanagiBitrus:
The collation centre is where rigging & manipulation of results is done most.
So anything to reduce human interference there viz E-Transmission should be welcome.

And can you not see what he was actually trying to pass across? So you failed to get a glimpse of that despite your claim of being a critical thinking fellow. Anyways let me bring you up to speed, he wasn't referring to the design. He was actually talking about the transparency of the process, the results are transmitted live and what you see there is the same as you would in any associated polling unit. This was the same process your country rejected. So before you crown yourself with the title of a "critical-thiking mind" ensure that you are actually deserving of it.

The natural resources that our country (Nigeria) is blessed with, do they (South Africa) have them in the same measurehuh Why not also compare the corruption rate. If you really want Nigerians to pay 40% tax. If the government can reasonably minimize or wipe out corruption or even reduce government wastages, development can come with even minimal tax. Nigerians are very ready to pay any amount, e.g after the whole noise about fuel subsidy, are Nigerians not paying today?

Nigeria has one of the lowest income tax rates in Africa, what were you hoping there would achieve other than low development output🫡. The higher the taxes the more developed the country will be. Morroco, South Africa and other Northern African states are good example of that. The lower the tax rate the worst the country is governed ; Nigeria, Congo ,Burundi etc are testament to that 🫣

I understand the anger, and you’re right about one thing: corruption and government waste are Nigeria’s biggest problems.

But natural resources alone don’t translate to development. Countries don’t develop because of what’s in the ground, they develop because of how well the state is funded, managed, and enforced.

South Africa does not have Nigeria’s oil reserves, true. But it has something Nigeria lacks: a broader tax base, stronger compliance, and institutions that actually collect and spend revenue with some level of accountability.

Fighting corruption and increasing tax revenue are not mutually exclusive. In fact, you can’t sustainably fight corruption without adequate funding for institutions, audits, courts, infrastructure, and public services.

The fuel subsidy example proves my point. Nigerians are already paying more, but because the state lacks structure and credibility, the pain feels wasted. The problem is not Nigerians’ willingness to pay—it’s how the money is managed.

Resources don’t build countries—institutions do. Corruption must be tackled, yes, but no country develops on minimal taxes, especially one of 200+ million people. Nigerians aren’t unwilling to pay; they’re unwilling to be robbed. The solution is reform and revenue, not one without the other.
