Do You Enjoy Female Commentators In Men's Football Games? by SixSeven(op):
I want to conduct a poll on this topic after my comment on the other thread about female commentators in football games. I do not enjoy it and I have been watching football for over 3 decades. I have also been listening to football commentary and analysis on radio, through SW to AM to FM and now podcasts and everything. During the days of livescores, I don't know if they still do that, women call it out. Women were always in the game but they never touched the live commentary part. I think due to the nature of the game and most audience being men, it was a sacrilege to disrupt what people heard. Someone called me a misogynist because of my comment.

I want to know, do you enjoy women's live commentary for men's games? This is just a statistical analysis of viewers' choice, no sentiments, no favoritism. Let's see what this sample size shows and maybe media organizations can learn from their consumers.

I was watching this match highlight of Napoli vs Chelsea (not the Tiktok I shared here but on another platform) and I saw people complain about the weakness of the commentary. They said it's either the commentator was biased or they lacked passion. Bear in mind, there was a male and female. In the one I saw, the woman did not do justice to the fantastic goals that were scored. In fact, someone joked that you are better off listening to Arab commentary or Brazilians grin

Another one said that's why he mutes his TV and watches online match commentary on social media for people who have more passion for the game

My response to the guy that called me a misogynist because of that comment
SixSeven:
I don't care. I don't enjoy it. I was watching Chelsea's recent match against Napoli and I also saw other people also say the same thing. I don't care about political correctness. Super Sports has some female anchors and analysts, no problem but I don't want them for the men's football commentary. Women will bring in unnecessary controversy and distractions to our game, then they will play victim. Watch how Ẹni Aluko blamed Ian Wright for preventing women from their own sports and dominating it. They will spoil the sports for us. Just last year, you saw those female presenters on the pitch wearing boobs revealing clothes, women know how to draw the attention to themselves, we don't need that

I am sure if these organizers did a poll to their viewers asking them if they wanted a female commentator, they know what we want. It's just too much political correctness today and people feel hurt.

I love the FIFA women's world cup. I watch it even when people think it's a waste of time but I prefer men for men, women for women. Let's have sense and respect each other.
Thank you.

A pundit once got into hot water for calling this observation out. Joey Barton, a former Premier League footballer and manager, sparked significant controversy and "got into hot water" in December 2023 for a series of social media posts claiming that women should not be involved in commentating or providing analysis on men's football.

I will not go to the extent of Barton for analysis but I agreed with him. He called it woke and used some nasty words. Football is where men feel free, once you start having these unnecessary emotions in the game, I am afraid we will lose it to softness and unnecessary distractions. It's not to say men are perfect but I fear a day when in football, men will be afraid to unpack (not in a racist or abusive tone) how they objectively want to talk about issues.

About the fact that women are causing distractions in men's games, let me pull that out

l
grin grin I have never thought of that. I watched the last FIFA World Cup. Until the Spanish issue, I enjoyed everything. I didn't even recognize I was listening to female, though the guest analysts were all women and you can now see more women coaches but when I watch men's games, it is just disconnected for me.

I have no problems with female commentators.

But my best Commentator is Sunday Oliseh. He is currently, by far, the best Commentator in the world.

The poll has ended. Thank you to those who voted. I called the mods to help get a bigger sample size but I can conclude from this limited sample that the margin is clear.

People don’t seem to value logic anymore. Expressing certain views can quickly get you labeled, like being called a misogynist. Personally, I believe female sports should be handled entirely by female personnel, just as men’s sports should be managed by men.
