Meet Lieutenant Colonel (Professor) Abubakar Surajo Imam, the first-ever Nigerian Army personnel to attain the rank of Professor.

An indigene of Kankia LGA, Katsina State, Prof Imam is not just a soldier and scholar. He is a builder of systems, ideas, and national solutions.

With a BSc in Mechanical Engineering (BUK), MSc in Mechatronics, and a PhD in Mechatronics and Robotics from Newcastle University, UK, he has combined military discipline with deep academic excellence. Today, he serves at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) as Head, Department of Mechatronics Engineering and Director, Centre for Innovation and Creativity (CINOCRE).

His work has led to real-world solutions that matter: Automated artillery systems
Unmanned ground combat vehicles
Smart rockets and missiles
Ventilators and COVID-19 innovations
Mobile hospitals, schools, kitchens, bakeries, and laundries
Hybrid electric vehicles
Affordable housing technology

"...It is not a big deal, and it's still a big deal" bla bla bla. What is this one saying sef? Do you think it is moi moi to become a professor? How many professors do you have in your family? Even if you struggle to have one, how many knowledgeable men in your community has a military orientation and academic profile such as a professor? You think you can just come online and undermine someone's remarkable efforts? You are not serious at all. I know people like you may not even have the privilege of studying beyond primary or secondary school level.

We find it easy to celebrate sports men and women, entertainers and politicians but it is a pity that people like these are not usually celebrated in this part of the world. You complain about insecurity but you don't celebrate people who make extra efforts while you are sleeping and snoring to ensure your safety. You keep complaining about poor education but you fail to celebrate your Professors, scholars and educationists...I know that one day, we will all get it right in this country.
