On February 8, 2026, suspected kidnappers were arrested at the Specialist Hospital in Auchi, Edo State, after they brought a sick child for treatment — only to be recognized by the doctor they had previously kidnapped. The suspects, Idris Abubakar and Sani Abubakar, were identified by Dr. Abu Ibrahim Babatunde, who survived their earlier abduction.

This shocking case began on January 2, 2026, when Dr. Babatunde and his younger brother, Tahir Abu, a recent medical graduate, were abducted while returning home.

While Dr. Babatunde was released after a reported ₦50 million ransom, Tahir was tragically killed in captivity. The Edo State Police Command confirmed the arrests and revealed that another suspect, Saminu Kawujie, was detained earlier in a nearby forest.

The incident has sparked mixed reactions online. Some say it’s justice finally catching up with criminals, while others express frustration over the country’s weak justice system.

Nigeria suppose to have section on Netflix, youtube and all streaming platform because I have seen only this in the movie before. The sad truth is if these kidnappers are highly connected, they will be freed and nothing will happen. The doctor has the done the right thing anyways.

Just look at the scenario, Imagine kidnapping a doctor and his brother who is also a doctor and killed him only to return to the same doctor to save your own child's life, if that doctor was a very heartless person, he will admit the child and just inject the child with something that will kill the child.

Because it was clear they did not even recognize him, that's just to show how many people the kidnappers may have kidnapped that they can't even keep up with the faces any longer, then it also shows how much the government has failed, imagine such level of kidnapping that even made it to national headlines, yet the perpetrators were walking freely without any fear of being even searched for, and looking at them it looks like they are Fulanis.

After all, education is not a scam. You want better healthcare for your own, and even took your own to a well functioning hospital that you never believe your kidnapped victim is working but want others to cry and be in agony until eternity just because of your own selfish behaviour. See how dem clean self. They have been doing this for long. They have money.
My problem with this country is the way they handle all these arrested boys. They will pamper them, and feed them with tax payers money. After settling down well in the prison, they will start living a comfortable life, and command another kidnapping cells from inside.
Why can't they make a special court for these useless things and fasten their trials within 2 months max. Then if found guilty, they should be hanged immediately?. These people don't deserve to leave.

Why is the OP compromising the safety and security of the doctor by showing his face? Don't you think these kidnappers have gangs/team who may want to attack or eliminate the doctor himself in order to compromise evidence in the trial?
