SixSeven:I actually think the fact that there's no labelling in Nigeria is a problem. I mean, yams grown with fertilizer and those grown without are lumped together and sold together in our markets. I hope something is done about it. Anytime I need yams grown without fertilizer, I send for yams from my village. That shouldn't be - all the yams sold in Lagos should start to be labelled. |

Canada is in North America, and for any American con3, GUN VIOLENCE is wide spread! How many people shoot each other in Nigeria? So Nigerians are likely to live longer! #yeepeyhaatv2 #chohaa2 |

HacheNoire:I know the North American food industry because I've done work on it. Those corporations are out to kill the people and they don't care as long as they make money https://www.tiktok.com/video/7564482828679875896? I once saw a report where even the children candy in Canada is not accepted in Europe. I give it to Europe when it comes to fokd safety because the Americans don't care if you die, they just want more sick patients and then they create another industry to manage sick patients. They never solve the problems, to them, it's all about management. You are just another customer to them. Anyone who knows what led to the FDA being created will know what I'm talking about. https://x.com/i/status/198718296347031159 You didn't talk about the clothes too? Nature will humble people but I like it. We learn everyday. Nothing beats natural and we have nature.

I am a Nigerian living in Canada as well. I agree that Canada does not grow so many things but you always find them in the stores every time from oranges to mangoes. They are all imported, which make them expensive. Prices of lots of those items have gone up in the past 5 years caused my Canadian dollar depreciation and supply chain issues with COVID. Back to fruits, I grew up in Nigeria eating lots of fruits. From bananas to oranges to pine apples to paw paw fresh from the farms. Not preserved with any chemicals and better qualities than I can only dream of in Canada. The issue with a lot of people in Nigeria is that we don't care much about them. We treat them mainly as snacks and not part of our main diets. On the issue of protein, animal proteins are very expensive no matter where we live. One thing has noticed since moving to Canada compared to Nigeria is that we lay more emphasis on carbohydrates than protein. I don't know the cause of that. In Nigeria you go to a regular restaurant, you choose your carbohydrates and then proteins are the side. Over here proteins are the main items and carbohydrates are side. I'm not sure if it is our culture, we just prioritize eating carbohydrates more. On the protein aspect, I will go back to quality, the quality of animal protein in Nigeria is not comparable to Canada. The quality is better in Nigeria. You can be certain of eating 100% organic animal protein in Nigeria unlike here that you have to check the label very well. My point is that while there might be abundant food in Canada, I am not sure of the quality of the food. Food availability may have contributed to high life expectancy in Canada compared to Nigeria but I don't think that's the main driver. There are many other factors responsible I think. My 2 cents contribution to the conversation. MockingBird: |

Kobojunkie:of course but the cost of getting this in Europe is times 10 the cost of getting that here and you even get it fresh, not preserved, or processed. |

JuanDeDios:I understand. It's even amazing that Ghana exports its yams abroad more than Nigeria and we know why. Even Fashola once lamented about this problem. We are not just organized as a people but on labeling, we never saw the need to because of trust. For instance, you too go to a trusted source when you need certain type of yam. That is the basis for society, TRUST. Do I agree that we need to label today? Yes. But labeling also costs money and the average farmer will laugh at you to tell him to label after all the work he did to harvest. Those to him are industrial and city concepts. Compared to some years ago, Nigeria also has more import of GMO in our stores and the lobbyists even want our government to make it legal. Those guys are evil. Have you heard of the story of the man who did not use Monsanto and what they did to him? He refused to use their seeds while all the other farmers cowered and got bought. He paid the price. These evil people want to control what God gave to us from nature. They don't like how we are using it for free. Our education is a problem too because most educated people think city life is the standard meanwhile it's all industrial pollution and a big mess. I used to be like that too until I got exposed to know what is the truth and the makeup they gave the lies to look like truth. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZGueeao0tE? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxVXvFOPIyQ I can tell you that some of the insecurity we have today is sponsored by those who want to attack our food security. Benue by now should be a food basket that it calls itself but we deliberately refuse to protect lives and property thereby affecting food security.

well you might be right in to some extent But one thing that reduced it here is resting time and no health facilities that are good enough A good example is anti venom Then fake drugs And mere facility that is needed for human existence eg good water good food and no current that is light I have seen where they are doing operation and nepa took light we have to rush to on the generator You see in Nigeria we don't have a good diet too anything we see we eat we are here for survival But all boils down to having a good government w |

Diet is one part but electricity is a HUGE part of greater life expectancy In Canada nobody is doing Band nonsense Their power minster is surely not using a power bank in public and most importantly No generator fumes and 24 hour power supply aids in rest and recovery Simple 🚶♂️🚶♂️ |

thrillionaire:Ever heard the saying,"You are what you eat!". In Nigeria's case, one of the reasons the country remains stuck in the same old patterns without an end in sight has a lot to do with the Nigerian diet. 🥱🥱 The average adult, for example, requires at least 60g of protein a day to fully function mentally and physically. How many Nigerians you know can afford to eat that everyday? 🥱🥱 |
| Re: One Reason Why Canadians Live Longer Than Nigerians by Kobojunkie: 2:36pm On Feb 09 |
LZAA:If you solve diet, you increase the chances of everything else including electricity being solved..🥱🥱 Nigeria needs better brains to solve problems with. The first step towards that is eating a diet that would help develop those brains it needs. 🥱🥱 |

MockingBird:I actually think Nigerian traditional diet is healthier than Western diet. If it were diet alone, Nigerians would live longer than Canadians. The main issue is Health care. So OP why do you think Canada has much higher suicide rate? Could it possibly be due to bananas? Your honest opinion please. |

Good. But you forgot the biggest part. Poverty. With so many poor people, they just want a full belly, if at all possible. The quality is immaterial. By and large, those better off financially have access to better food, the best local and foreign health care, etc. Baba Iyabo, Jack Gowon and many others are still waxing strong. IBB might not be alive today if he was a poor person. Also, remember that average life expectancy takes child and maternally mortality into consideration. Canadians have few kids and the vast majority survive. Maternal mortality is very low. Whereas, "We Hail Thee" is world champion in these categories. |

| Re: One Reason Why Canadians Live Longer Than Nigerians by ManOfSon: 2:55pm On Feb 09 |
This is not accurate information. The reason Canadians have higher life expectancy isn't just the food - if at all. It's a combination of factors often described by experts as the social determinants of health. I won't go into that. Research by Canadians themselves show that immigrants, including Nigerians, have more diminished health the longer they stay in Canada. This means that a Nigerian who arrived Canada 5 years ago is less healthy today than when they first arrived. Canadian experts call this "the immigrant health effect". You can google it. Talking of food, most of what Canadians eat are sugar-based and genetically modified food. There are lots of fruits and vegetables. But they're also mostly inorganic and therefore with less health benefits. There's more to health than just food. Having a noisy I pass my neighbor generator polluting your ears and robbing you of sleep is one of those social determinants of health. |
