The National Chairman Council of Ulama Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa’ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, has described the appointment of Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan as Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) as a risk of the highest order.
Jingir said Amupitan’s appointment stands rejected by Nigerian Muslims, considering the importance of INEC as an institution.

Jingir made the statement at the end of a 3-day 33rd annual national seminar organised by JIBWIS at Saddeqa event center, Jos.


Amupitan has come under fire following a legal brief he wrote some years back attempting to justify the alleged Christians genocide in Nigeria.

Even though the Tinubu administration has severally denied the allegations, the government is silent on the call for Amupitan’s removal.

According to the cleric, the INEC chairman has publicly accused Muslims of genocide against Christians in the country, and therefore shouldn’t be allowed to hold sensitive positions like INEC.
“Why is it that someone that had abused Sheikh Usman Danfodio and Muslims was appointed INEC chairman, “ Sheik Jingir asked.

Sheikh Jingir wondered why members of the National Assembly kept quiet on the issue, calling on the lawmakers to ensure the right thing is done to appoint a fair chairman for the commission.

The cleric said Muslims are rejecting the idea of having someone that invited foreign attack on Nigeria to be the chairman of an important institution in the country.

He said, “I disagree with the person that went aboard to call for an attack on Nigeria, and the government of Muslim-Muslim, take the risk of appointing him as the head of electoral umpire, it is an extremely a risk of the highest order.”

That Inec has gotten trillions of naira by the leaders to conduct credible elections, only for same leaders to turn back to prevent Inec from conducting credible elections is not an Islamic issue.

I don't think they are overstating their importance to Tinubu. They gave him 5.6m out of his 8m votes. What Sheikh Jingir is saying is exactly what Tinubu is spending 9.5m U.S dollars on lobby firms in America to say. No difference. While Sheikh Jingir is blaming Amupitan for writing letters to Trump and demanding his sack, Tinubu's government is blaming an Onitsha-based screwdriver seller for supplying bombing coordinates to Trump.

An old man who is very insincere is a calamity to the peace and security of his community. This man and many like him by my opinion have assuring tendencies of supporting massacre of people for the sake of islam. Rejecting a Muslim Muslim ticket is a civil duty anyone will carry out by any legal and harmless means because such political strategy is dangerous to the peaceful existence other religious believers especially in nigeria where the Muslims are edging towards islamising nigeria in the secret and cowardly usually deny it in the public.

I think it was already revealed in 2023. Tinubu got 5.6m votes from the North. Atiku got virtually all his 7m votes from the North. Kwankwaso got all his 1.4m votes from Kano. Even Obi got over 2m votes from the North. Now, compare and contrast to what both Tinubu and Obi got individually from the South. Data is stubborn but you can continue to quarrel with numbers.

It wasn't revealed. 2023 election was heavily rigged. I,my family and supporters voted the APC, I'm a Christian ✝️ and APC won my ward and LGC which is 95% Christian.
In fact,if we are to vote across religious line,it's the atheist and traditional religious worshippers that would determine those going to be the president of Nigeria.
