Over 2,000 Stranded Trucks Move As Nigeria Reopens Benin, Niger Borders by eyesoflagos(op): 7:47am On Feb 10
No fewer than 2,000 trucks previously stranded at Nigeria’s borders with the Republics of Benin and Niger have begun movement following the reopening of the Kamba and Tsamiya border posts in Kebbi State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the development follows a directive by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aimed at restoring cross-border trade and easing the movement of legitimate goods after months of restrictions. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

The Kebbi Area Controller of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr Mahmoud Matawalle-Ibrahim, officially declared the borders open to trucks from Benin and Niger on Monday at Kamba, in Dandi Local Government Area of the state.

According to him, the reopening covers border routes in Dandi and Bagudo Local Government Areas and is intended to revive lawful trade activities disrupted by earlier security concerns.

“The reopening of the borders in Dandi and Bagudo Local Government Areas is to facilitate the movement of legitimate goods and restore cross-border trade with the Republics of Benin and Niger after months of closure,” Matawalle-Ibrahim said.

He explained that the exercise was carried out with presidential approval to ensure the smooth transit of goods from the Tsamiya border to Niger Republic through the Kamba corridor.

The customs controller confirmed that many of the trucks earlier trapped at the Benin border had already been cleared at Tsamiya and were now moving towards Tunga Jado, a border town in Niger Republic, through Kamba.

He added that the reopening would not only boost commercial activities but also enhance collaboration on security between Nigeria and its neighbouring countries

Reacting to the development, an official of the Niger Republic, Commander Maigiro Yahaya-Tubil, described the decision as a welcome relief for transporters and traders.

“We are happy that our trucks, which were stranded for months, can now move freely through Nigeria to their destinations,” he said.

Similarly, the District Head of Kamba, Alhaji Muhammed Sarkin-Shikon-Kamba, said the reopening would bring economic relief to border communities whose livelihoods were disrupted by the prolonged closure.

“This decision will restore economic activities in our communities and improve the livelihoods of our people. We sincerely appreciate the Federal Government,” he said.

Unfortunately this wouldn't still reduce prices of anything in the market.

Nigerians are mostly ridiculously greedy. angry

Had to do emergency printing close to an Embassy and I was shocked when the lady said for 4 pages....

I would pay 100k! shocked shocked shocked

I had it in mind to tip her 20k before, but I refused to collect the paper from her and returned to my hotel, missing my flight .

I would rather pay for rescheduling and an extra night than pay her 25k per page.

Funny enough at the hotel, I asked the receptionists how much it would cost , they said it they don't print for a fee - it could be done as a favour. I ended up gifting them 15k - WILLINGLY. Not out of desperation.

Epilogue - she called to ab*se me. I got the visa.

Congratulations! Nigerian borders can only be closed to legit economic transactions. But remain opened to terrorists and all illicit and illegal transactions.

The question is: what is your current president teaching Nigerians as their leader?

I'm not here to justify anybody's greed, but what is Tinubu showing as good example to Nigerians as their leader?

Do you and Tinubu think leadership is all about holding a title and gallivanting up and down?

What good example is he showing the governors, the institutions, the children going to school and Nigerians in general?

This is actually a good development. That border closure really contributed to high price in food and lead to hardship, the border was closed to open opportunities for the local farmers. But the wickedness and the greedy nature of our people couple with insecurity didn’t allow the border closure to yield meaningful results.

Let the border be open for goods while local producers should brace up and ready to compete favorably, not holding us to ransom any longer.

I said this year and early next year before the election, things will be manipulated so that things will be cheaper, all in an effort to win the election, after they win the election, your suffering will continue. If you have money, invest am before the elections, after they win, things will go back to being hard

What's their reason to close these two borders before? BH boys are not allowing our farmer to go farm again so our food production has drop for the past years.
Now election is close by they want to make it look like everything is normal.

closing of the borders by the Buhari administration was the worst thing that happened in Nigeria , even the appointment of Col. Ali as the controller general of customs is the reason why cars and other imported items are exorbitant because of his daft policies.

Tha is greed!

Then when photocopying was 5 naira, when in urgent need near such Institutions like the Embassy, they’d charge up to 100 to 200 Nairaland for a page.

Things like this is not humane!
It’s greediness!

president Tinubu has shown true leadership by being focused to his set goal instead of being distracted by noise from the opposition, he is a leader with a listening ears, he is a talk and do, a true Democrats that believes in separation of power, division of power and respect for the rule of law.
He is a proactive leader full of confidence, resilience and determination to succeed.

Good development because this kind of trade between neighbouring countries should never had been stopped before. Europeans moves freely. Same with North Americans. We were just fooling ourselves by creating the narratives that those kinds of trade caused the dollars to gain over the naira. Currencies are manipulated by the world marketers. Every country import one thing and the other.

And Nigeria is like the way it is today under him begging for loans, military help, can't protect its citizens even up to generals in the military, children begging for food, highest out of school children in the world, poverty capital of the world, one of the highest government corruption index in the world, if this is what you call good and quality leadership then I see why some people refer to you guys as 2 faced people...

So, the FG can open the Int'l borders in the North and West for businesses while the borders in the South are closed permanently for businesses since in the days of Buhari till date?
The Southern borders with Cameroun and Malabo can be closed forever to block trans-Atlantic trade to stifle economic activities of the area but the ones in the West with Benin and the ones in the North with Niger can be opened to promote trans-sahara trade to boost economic activities of the area.
Una do well..ooo.
