Guess I am the only one that has been lucky with a Nigerian used vehicle. Got a Nigerian used Rx330 since 2016, 10 years later that car has not given me any issues. Still clean as ever, no engine, gear box or other associated issues...

Op just ensure to do a thorough due diligence with a very very good mechanic before paying.

I have this same car for 10.5m, mine just got cleared from port a week ago, it's the fullest option.

Leather seats, double pano roof, electric seats, heated seats, back AC vent and best of all its 100% accident free and never painted here in Nigeria.

Don't buy a used one fr 8m bro.

There's a reason people dragged Hyundai to court over the terrible rod knock and serious oil consumption many of these engines suffer, do a quick Google search and you'll see tons of lamentations, the outcome was Hyundai is mandated to change the engine of this vehicle through out the Life of its chassis provided there's documented proof of timely service, people often get remanufactured engines, many people are on their third and fourth engines on these vehicles.
This is an issue with the design of the vehicle, most of the times it gives no warning, it just dies on the highway and that's the end of it, maintenance won't save you, gentle driving will not, you just have to be thankful everyday you use it and successfully park it.
The wet dct Hyundai used from 2021+(I think) got issues as early as before 2000 miles, that was another mistake, imagine having a new car and needing a transmission before you hit 2000 miles, these are not the best years to buy, if you must buy an Hyundai go back to pre 2011, or buy from 2026, from 2026 Hyundai will use normal torque converter transmissions and then have gotten their engine right, take a few keywords from my advice and insert them in yiur browser to know more, good luck!

Research on GDI engine problems

from reading the comments go for peace, so you dont have to face problems with

1) Shock Absorber ( about 120k)

2) Engine ( very expensive above 1 mill)

3) Fuel consumption.

Current estimate price of Hyundai Santafe 2014 engine 3.3L V6 at Ladipo market.

GDI version : 3 Million
Non GDI: 1.6 Million

Hope this help for those asking whats wrong with GDI.

so If I buy a direct toks vehicle and God suddenly blesses me abundantly and I decide to upgrade my car immediately, will the buyer of the car I brought earlier be buying trouble?

What's GDI engine?

This is my 3rd car since 2010. What I can tell you is:
1. Any car except the very common brands like Toyota, honda, Lexus, Benz etc do not have second hand value.
2. The car is overpriced for that type of car that is Nigerian used. I can't buy this type of car for even 5M (Nigerian used), I will rather add more money and buy a Toyota.
3. From the point above, that amount 8M can buy you a good toyota corolla or camry (peace of mind). Though they may not look this stylish but they give you peace. With point 1 above, buying a Toyota will give you good second hand value if you maintain it well.
4. Spare parts may not be as cheap as Toyota or honda.
5. Hyundai is also not that bad, but Nigerian used for that price is not what I would recommend.

If you have not paid for the car, I will sincerely advise you not to buy the car.
It has regular electrical problem.
Gear box is another problem you will be prepared for.
So long as is 9ja used, you will not enjoy the car. It will be from one mechanic workshop to another mechanic workshop.
Quietly find out why the first owner is selling the car. If he tells you the real truth, you will run faster than Usein Bolt.

Take your time and get a good 9ja used Toyota or Lexus that the gear box is in good condition.

So those are the few things I check when buying cars, especially as a first timer.

You are correct, people don't understand this. Even honda is better. I sold my honda civic for more than the amount I bought it after 5 - 6 years of usage. Though, I maintained it well.

It would embarrass you on the way and it would take like an hour to get it working after sudden engine shut down.

You stop at a market to buy food stuff. Then went back to start it to leave, boom! It won't start.

All these problems are peculiar to every brand, once car is old these problems will suffice unless you do a total rehaul.

Price it 4-5m, don't go beyond that,it doesn't have second hand value like Toyota,my colleague is using it and overheating issues, gear related issues as a result of complications,again the parts are expensive and not that available
