Many people are not fully aware, you'll get to know how second hand value works when u are selling and not buying....

A friend of mine bought a similar car for around 6.9 million for Bolt driving, the driver got a better job and left the car, to sell the car became an issue... People were pricing it 2.5 -3 million....

But if it's Toyota product, you may even end up selling it more than the amount u bought it, and Ur Toyota cannot stay in a car stand for more than 2 weeks without u getting a good offer...

Lastly, where I'm working currently, their Hyundai car fuel pump failed, till now they haven't seen it anywhere in Abuja to buy, including their Hyundai office... They advised they we should order from Lagos....

So those are the few things I check when buying cars, especially as a first timer.

After battering thier cars they start advertising it as neatly used, buy and drive bla bla bla, the truth I most Nigerians don't know how to maintain cars and their mechanics are not helping matters.
One simple truth is Nigerians hardly sell their cars if it's not giving them issues!

Transmission might give up after 100k miles,
The engine is poorly designed so you have to make sure you top up your oil by checking the dipstick, also do oil change every 3k miles. I am talking about synthetic oil.

Lexus is ok, but a little bit higher to maintain..... If this is actually Ur first car, go for any good Toyota or honda, and don't be in a hurry to buy, don't even send anyone to do inspection on Ur behalf....

Why did I say Toyota or Honda, their parts are everywhere, mechanics are everywhere, they don't usually have any electrical problems, they don't break down easily, Thier parts don't usually develop faults...

So u have less frustration, but if u have enough money, u can go for the Hyundai, but u will have to get a special mechanic and electrician that is a specialist to be doing the routine maintenance for u...

Once Ur Hyundai enters bad electrician hand, trust me u will sell off the car at a giveaway price....(I've been driving for over 17 years now)

Good car, however Nigerian mechanics have not mastered maintenance of GDI engine. So best to avoid the GDI version. Look at the engine, if GDI is clearly written on it.

Been using my Hyundai ix35 suv for over 4yrs and no issues whatsoever. They are good rides.

This is correct. Further, I understand that Sonatas have GDI Engines which are known for burning oil quicker than normal e.g. engine oil dries up after a meagre 1,000km. This problem starts coming to the surface after total mileage crosses the 100,000 km mark. Other than that and the normal wear and tear you experience in an average car, it served me well for the first five years.

Stop asking him to underprice it, unless it has a fault, 8m is actually a good price. Some of these models go for as high as 12m clean condition.

Your colleague needs to have his head gasket changed to prevent overheating and also replace his gear oil. Sometimes the problems we ascribe to these car brands are as a result of our carelessness or lack of regular maintenance.

Exactly the reason I said he should find out the reason behind the sell.

Not good for a new driver . Small mistake like poor maintenance especially GDI engine. That's the end. While toyota and Honda engine survives this will not live

Exactly 💯 I bought mine naija used, but ever since I fixed every problems I noticed after buying it, I have been driving it for months without going to the mechanic, except whenever I intend changing break pads and oil, just as you rightly made mentioned above.

Though I bought mine 12m naija used June last year, but the price has drastically reduced, I'm seeing agents posting a 2012 Camry for 7.5m, 8m, 9m.... So, if he's patient he'd see a sharp one for 8m.

For the first timer, you need Toyata should be your first brand of car you really need. Do not allow anybody convince or confuse you. I tell you from experience. The car you uploaded here is a good car but it's for people that owns more a car and with it does not have durability as a second hand in Nija.
Anyways if your mind goes on with it, please you are free but I just feel to give you a tip.

There's a reason people dragged Hyundai to court over the terrible rod knock and serious oil consumption many of these engines suffer, do a quick Google search and you'll see tons of lamentations, the outcome was Hyundai is mandated to change the engine of this vehicle through out the Life of its chassis provided there's documented proof of timely service, people often get remanufactured engines, many people are on their third and fourth engines on these vehicles.
This is an issue with the design of the vehicle, most of the times it gives no warning, it just dies on the highway and that's the end of it, maintenance won't save you, gentle driving will not, you just have to be thankful everyday you use it and successfully park it.
The wet dct Hyundai used from 2021+(I think) got issues as early as before 2000 miles, that was another mistake, imagine having a new car and needing a transmission before you hit 2000 miles, these are not the best years to buy, if you must buy an Hyundai go back to pre 2011, or buy from 2026, from 2026 Hyundai will use normal torque converter transmissions and then have gotten their engine right, take a few keywords from my advice and insert them in yiur browser to know more, good luck!
