Under Buhari government, the price of bag of rice moved from 10,000 to like 90,000 despite outcry, the government never considered importation to check the excesses of the rice farmers. Journalist and media houses never made verification to ascertain whether rice farms were actually destroyed.

Under Tinubu government, I wonder why such stories never come up. This is because importation is allowed to check and balance the rice farmers activities. If they claim rain destroy their farms, importation would serve as alternative not money or aid.

The same thing applies to Dangote on cement matter. He usually increase price of cement since government stopped importation. He will always give excuses of market glut. Now the cement is 11000 naira plus.

Some two weeks bags Petrol was 734 naira per liter, people were relieved and hope. Then Dangote came up with claim that he can now meet local demand, government responded by stopping importation, shortly after that, Dangote increase price of Petrol to 834 per liter.

These are the evils we do to ourselves in Nigeria. Nothing should be left in the hands of local manufacturers. Importation should be allowed in all areas of the economy to serve as a check and balance.

What is Tinubu's policy on agriculture that has resulted to crash in price of rice? Importation is not an agricultural policy. 70% of Nigeria's rural dwellers are farmers. Someone who campaigned on an Agbado exonomy and promised prosperity to farmers has now turned around to accuse them and brand them an enemy. For every cheap imported bag of rice you buy, more youth drop their farming tools and resort to crimes to make ends meet after seeing their source of livelihood taken away from them. Leadership goes beyond looking good on paper. It is deeper than that.
