Tinubu Unlikely To Sign Amended Electoral Act - Sunday Dare by Omooba77(op): 7:42pm On Feb 11
Amedia aide to President Bola Tinubu, Sunday Dare, has said Mr Tinubu is unlikely to give assent to the amended electoral act particularly real-time electronic transmission of election results.

Mr Dare, special adviser to the president on media and public communication, spoke during his appearance on a programme on Arise TV.

He stated that the country lacked sufficient Internet capacity to transmit election results from polling units via real-time upload of results on INEC’s IREV website.

He said the president would take account of the country’s present Internet realities before deciding whether to assent to the bill.

“I can assure you that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a renowned democrat, will do what is right, but it will not be in isolation of the realities of our country,” Mr Dare said.

He said that Nigeria’s limited Internet infrastructure cannot handle the volume of data required for real-time electronic transmission of poll results.

Mr Dare added, “There’s no 100 per cent real-time transmission anywhere. Are you telling me that this country as it is, is networked enough to have a 100 per cent electronic process?.”

The issue of electronic transmission of election results ignited nationwide debates and divided the Senate after lawmakers alleged that the Senate president Godswill Akpabio forged the Act to deliberately exclude the clause requiring the upload of results on INEC’s IREV portal.

But after protests at the National Assembly, Mr Akpabio agreed to reinstate the clause.

For the amended bill to become law, it has to be signed by the president.

During the 2023 presidential polls, the IREV portal was down for more than six hours over what officials claimed to be caused by technical glitches.

Twenty-four hours after the polls which Mr Tinubu was declared winner in February 2023, INEC had only uploaded 11 per cent of results.

I was waiting for protesters today in Abuja, but couldn't find any. Have they given up so soon? Just two days of low turnout of sponsored urchins and they have already run out of steam. Shame sad

The thing to understand about our politicians.
You see that "innovation" that will make force them to be accountable? They will drag leg on it and will almost never do it.
If we were united, all constituents for RECALL all the senators; them go do the needful.

We don't even make use of any of the CHECKS AND BALANCES that makes democracy beautiful.

Re: Tinubu Unlikely To Sign Amended Electoral Act - Sunday Dare by Macphenson: 8:21pm On Feb 11
In 2022 INEC said they were ready for full electronic voting and transmission.. In 2023 aside the "glitch" manufactured to rig Presidential elections, all other elections were transmitted smoothly.

Even in all of these, INEC itself have never complained of Network being a challenge for them for transmission, just the criminal politicians and their urchins.

This one doesn't know how a simple electoral process works. How can one or two.polling units not transmitting results lead to inconclusive elections?

When they tell you people to go and vote to understand how your country works, you won't. Later, you will come on social media to display brazen ignorance

We don't need anything electronic. It can be easily hacked. Also many areas in Nigeria don't have internet. Manual is better.

He will sign it and he will win.

He has never lost an election all his life.

No Nigeria president elected since 1999 has spent only 4 years in office and Tinubu will not be exception.

Even Goodluck Jonathan spent roughly 6 years on power and eight years in Aso Rock when you factor in his two years as a VP despite being the weakest Nigeria president ever.

No vacancy in Aso Rock till May 29th, 2031 at the earliest.

Nobody will be surprised if he refuses to sign the bill. He knows he can't win free and fair election
Re: Tinubu Unlikely To Sign Amended Electoral Act - Sunday Dare by SixSeven: 7:45pm On Feb 12
Electoral art or act is not what we need. It's for the people to come out and participate in the process. One of the things they are counting on and they are doing it deliberately is to make sure you're not interested in the process so they can rig as usual. And they are relying on your disinterest to win like they do in LG elections. Electronic or not, it's about the people's votes count and our politicians in power don't want that to count because they know they can't even account for their current positions, how can they allow you to now count them out of second termhuh
