Tinubu unlikely to sign amended electoral act with electronic transmission of poll results alone: Sunday Dare

Mr Dare said, “I can assure you that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a renowned democrat, will do what is right, but it will not be in isolation of the realities of our country.”

A media aide to President Bola Tinubu, Sunday Dare, has said Mr Tinubu is unlikely to give assent to the amended electoral act particularly real-time electronic transmission of election results.

Mr Dare, special adviser to the president on media and public communication, spoke during his appearance on a programme on Arise TV.

He stated that the country lacked sufficient Internet capacity to transmit election results from polling units via real-time upload of results on INEC’s IREV website.

He said the president would take account of the country’s present Internet realities before deciding whether to assent to the bill.

“I can assure you that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a renowned democrat, will do what is right, but it will not be in isolation of the realities of our country,” Mr Dare said.

He said that Nigeria’s limited Internet infrastructure cannot handle the volume of data required for real-time electronic transmission of poll results.

Mr Dare added, “There’s no 100 per cent real-time transmission anywhere. Are you telling me that this country as it is, is networked enough to have a 100 per cent electronic process?.”

The issue of electronic transmission of election results ignited nationwide debates and divided the Senate after lawmakers alleged that the Senate president Godswill Akpabio forged the Act to deliberately exclude the clause requiring the upload of results on INEC’s IREV portal.

But after protests at the National Assembly, Mr Akpabio agreed to reinstate the clause.

For the amended bill to become law, it has to be signed by the president.

During the 2023 presidential polls, the IREV portal was down for more than six hours over what officials claimed to be caused by technical glitches.

Twenty-four hours after the polls which Mr Tinubu was declared winner in February 2023, INEC had only uploaded 11 per cent of results.

Ha ha ha ha so Mr president is now demarketing Nigeria, they are now all of a sudden celebrating their own inefficiencies.
In a nation where POS operators are found in every nooks and crannies of Nigeria.
They initially said that lack of electricity could mar the process, they were reminded of the use of generators and power banks which of course INEC have always done so and can be accommodated in the billions of naira budgeted for INEC,they now said is internet connectivity that is the problem. Again they were reminded that as of 2023 general elections INEC had a success rate of about 90 or more percent in uploading both the senatorial and house of reps results to the IREV. Then mysteriously 'papa glitch' attacked them during the flawed presidential elections. This government should better stop embarrassing themselves.

Why would he not sign it? He must The solemn truth is that this would eliminate the chances of rigging and electoral timeliness. Hence he wouldn't want to sign.

ACN once demanded for electronic transfer of election results. So nothing new. This country must make progress. The wicked fleeth when no one pursueth....

So cant it be improved upon? The world have left the analogue system of electoral processes. What is budgeting billions for elections if secured network can be procured from Amazon? Meanwhile your government said bandits are free using the same network which they can't trace them? Useless people

Jagaban of Africa, who also preached in support of transmission of results from polling to INEC server back in 2014 is now afraid of signing the bill into law just like most PDP's people were doing in the past.

What is the difference between Tinubu and the people he was criticizing in the past?

Majority of Nigerians are HYPOCRITE abeg and that's why Nigeria can never be great.

I thought that Nigerians voted Tinubu in 2023 because the love him.
I thought that they will vote him again in 2023 because the love him.
I thought that 30 governors are on his side.
nass is on his side.
I thought that many political big weights have defected to APC.
I thought that Nigerian is better now than before.
I thought that Food is cheaper now.
He has delivered on his promises.
I thought that Security in now better than before.
I thought that Projects full ground.
I thought that Foreign reserve is now at its peak ever.

Nigerians now want to prove all the above in 2027. Nigerians want to demonstrate their love for Tinubu in 2027. They want him to make the elections transparent, free, and fair to show the haters now much majority of the masses are behind him.

Let all lovers of Tinubu should push for free, fair, and transparent elections to shame the opposition once and for all
