Even before this shit there has not been consistent electricity supply even with the banding thing with the minister of power always talking trash as usual. Many have been running alternate power source for reliable light supply. |

We are yet to get it right in the power sector. The privatisation of NEPA didn't consider technical competence, but political business minded people, who had virtually nothing to offer than to continue strangling innocent citizens of their sweat. New investors need to be brought into the sector. Thank God, states now have the right to generate their power separately. Unfortunately,we are in a country where national grid now collapses all the time. |

No light in 3 days ![]() I'm ready to vex yinkus6750:Nigeria keeps frustrating new investors. I know this because an American company wanted to come in some years ago and they ran away. Our levels of corruption are mind-boggling. Contracts that should have at least 20% indigenous ownership, will be made to be crony capitalism, squeezed until youe unsure of profits and constant threats upon your head if you don't comply; and how you'll be worried your investment will go to waste. |

Nigerians and their governments past and present are reaping the fruits of underpaying for electricity over the decades. Simple and short. |

evanpass:No, the cold reason is that it is government policy and the policy of the masses to not pay a cost reflective tarrif for power To produce a kwh of power costs 230 naira . Or more. Most Nigerians don't pay that. Add the fact that most Nigerians do not pay at all which leads to discos running at a loss and rejecting power from gencos for the simple fact that they can't pay the gencos. And then there is corruption, part of it via rip off schemes like estimated billing which is done to keep the discos afloat. And your government is running away from the problem |

| Re: Nigerians Experiencing Significant Drop In Electricity Supply Nationwide by nairalanda1(m): 7:03pm On Feb 12 |
yinkus6750:Well, the problem with privatizing Nepa was that the government introduced price controls This meant that discos essentially charged prices for power that made them lose money. Until the band a came on board, discos lost at least 20-50 naira per unit of power sold for every consumer. When band a came , discos only made a profit from 20% of consumers , and made a loss from the rest. That's why no serious investors are coming . No one is going to invest in a sector where most people are underpaying and where government is struggling to pay the subsides for the losses made And for iwaeda and raccoon, the same thing will happen under an obi presidency unless he is ready to do differently from the useless apc and ensure that everyone pays a cost reflective tarrifs. Same for the apc supporters here too. Your man tinubu is strangling the power sector with subsides and price controls. |
