People attacking Pres. Tinubu’s new tax policy lack understanding - Gov. Otti

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has defended President Bola Tinubu’s new tax reform laws, saying critics of the policy do not fully understand its provisions.

Otti threw his weight behind the reforms, revealing that several elements of the new tax framework reflect arguments he made nearly a decade ago regarding Nigeria’s fiscal direction.

“Almost 10 years ago, I wrote about the fiscal side of things. When I read the new tax reform law, I saw many of those arguments reflected in it. I thank Prof. Oyedele. When people att+ck him, they don’t understand,” Otti said.

The governor’s remarks signal strong support for the administration’s ongoing efforts to restructure the country’s tax system.

The reforms, spearheaded by the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee chaired by Prof. Taiwo Oyedele, have sparked mixed reactions across the country.

While some stakeholders have raised concerns about the impact of the new policies, Otti insisted that the framework is grounded in sound fiscal reasoning.

By referencing his past writings on economic and fiscal matters, the Abia governor suggested that the reforms align with long-standing proposals aimed at improving revenue generation and strengthening Nigeria’s economic foundation.

I have no problem with Tinubu. My problem is with the 35 remaining governors of these states. I wonder what they are doing with all the money allocated to them. The lay man can't feel the dividends of Tinubu if he doesn't pressure these greedy people to work. That's why an ordinary person who has no idea of politics will shift the entire blame to the federal level, mean while the state is to blame

The difference is that those countries you mentioned have reputable governments … systems in place to track corruption and wastage .. but here you have men who are ready to loot and waste everything when they find the opportunity

You guys failed to understand the crux of the matter. Nigerians are and have been making sacrifices for the country to work. The problem is mistrust of government... No reasonable person, except those blinded by tribalism and corruption, can confidently entrust their commonwealth to a band of heartless ,rapacious and shameless politicians. No one feels confident doing that...

Are you judging based on what's happening in your state? For emphasis, please let us know the last time you heard a governor owes salaries, unlike before.
Also, your governor might not be using your state resources well, but you see my Edo State governor? That man has turned Edo state to a construction site 🚧🏗️. Even his critics in Edo then are now clapping for him
