The Davis Cup is the international tennis tournaments for men's national teams. The competition is currently divided into World Groups 1, 2, 3 and 4. Nigeria recently defeated Uzbekistan 3-1 in Lagos to gain promotion to the World Group 2. We have now been drawn against Morocco in a match that will take place in Morocco in September 2026. The winner of that match will get a chance to play for promotion to the World Group 1 in 2027. The World Group 1 is where the best tennis playing nations compete and we could get the chance to see some of the best players in the world in Lagos if we are promoted (as it used to be in the old days). However, Morocco's last match was against Colombia in Casablanca and the Moroccan fans threw objects on the court and there were problems between players and officials of both teams after Morocco lost 3-1 at home. Video of crowd trouble in the match between Colombia and Morocco.
Some Nigerians are saying that the Nigerian federation should petition the International Tennis Federation (ITF) to move the match to Nigerian because of what happened in the tennis match between Colombia and Morocco and also because of what happened during the football African Nations Cup.

PulaPower:We played for promotiom to World Group 2 and won. Morocco played for promotion to World Group 1 and lost (Think of it like football league divisions). So we are both now in the same World Group 2. |

Morocco is not a good host; They lack the spirit of good sportsmanship. I hope CAF have seen that truly Morocco were the problem during the conclude African nations cup. How can you provoke somebody, and when they react, you fine them, not fair. Rather, Caution and fine should be given to the trouble maker and not the other way around |
