Court Dismisses Application Seeking Tunji-ojo’s NYSC Record by SlavaUkraini(op): 7:03am On Feb 14
A federal high court in Abuja has declined a request seeking to compel the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to disclose details of the discharge certificate of Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, minister of interior.

In a ruling delivered on Friday, Joyce Abdulmalik, the presiding judge, held that the ex parte application did not meet the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FoI) Act.

The application was filed by Emorioloye Owolemi, an activist, through his counsel, Philemon Yakubu.

Brought pursuant to order 34 of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules 2019 and sections 1, 20 and 21 of the FOI Act 2011, the motion sought the court’s leave to inquire into the legality of the minister’s NYSC discharge certificate.

Owolemi specifically asked the court for an order of mandamus directing the NYSC management to release information contained in a letter dated November 17, 2025, regarding the minister’s discharge certificate.

The applicant also asked the court to compel the scheme to provide monthly clearance records from the location where Tunji-Ojo reportedly served prior to his alleged abscondment, as well as bank account details and financial information submitted during his 2006 NYSC registration.

He further sought all monthly allowance payment logs, including dates, amounts, bank schedules and the accounts to which payments were made, alongside official documentation showing the date, nature and status of the minister’s alleged abscondment.

Other documents requested included internal memos, queries, disciplinary reports or correspondence relating to the alleged abscondment, in addition to registration, posting, deployment and service records tied to the minister’s 2006 service year.

However, the judge held that the applicant did not demonstrate that he was acting in the public interest, as required under the FOI Act, and consequently declined the request.

Speaking to journalists after the ruling, Yakubu said he would consult with his client on the next line of action.

He added that his client’s objective is to promote transparency, accountability and probity among public office holders in the country.

This government is the most undemocratic democracy Nigeria jas ever seen.

The court is now a kagaroo institution for declaring Tinubu's stooges as "unknown soldier" irrespective of the crime they commit.

2027 is just around the corner.

Nigerians must never forget how this wicked government gaslighted them for calling out incompetence, nepotism and draconian policies.

They will reduce the dollar, throw out contracts and even subsidize fuel just to make you forget the three years of pain and hardship. But choose wisdom.

If you don't seek justice for yourself, no one will.
We must remind these politicians we are their true bosses and employers.

By default, are public office holders academic details not supposed to be made public? For transparency and accountability purposes.I understand other details are kept away for security reasons but academic details publication isnt a taboo.

When you say that our country is gone, are you talking about the deal Remi Tinubu made with Trump for her husband to be paid for American 🇺🇸 recolonisation of Nigeria 🇳🇬, using the mining excuse to gain access to our resources over China 🇨🇳?

Is that a follow up to their ko ṣẹlẹ̀ rí unprecedented invitation of American troops to violate our sovereignty and kill innocent northerners under the guise of looking for Muslim terrorists accused of Christian genocide huh

Tunji Ojo is merely following the footsteps of Nigeria’s most infamous figure, notorious drug baron, identity thief and certificate forger

When asked to present the certificates they claimed to have obtained, they refused.

Instead of clearing their name, they approached the courts, not to prove their innocence, but to seek a perpetual injunction preventing anyone from questioning those very certificates.

Another reason for all to see that the judiciary is in cohort with the corrupt political echelon.

We pour all our energy and focus more on politicians, executive and legislative arms of Government but ignore the gate keepers of our democracy the judiciary.

Our country can only be better if we have a responsible and corrupt free judiciary, because there will be true accountability and transparency.
