The presidency has called for a full investigation into remarks by former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over an alleged wire-tapping of the National Security Adviser’s phone line.

El-Rufai had alleged that he and some others listen to the telephone conversations of Mr Ribadu after an individual tapped the NSA’s phone.

He defended the legality of the phone interception, acknowledging that it is technically illegal but claiming,

“The government does it all the time.
They listen to our calls without a court order. But someone tapped his phone and told us that he gave the order.

Reacting on Friday shortly after El-Rufai’s interview on Arise TV, Bayo Onanuga, Presidential Spokesperson, raised concerns about the implications of the claim for national security.

“El-Rufai has confessed to wire-tapping Nigeria’s NSA on TV. Does it mean that he and his collaborators have wire-tapping facilities?” Onanuga queried.

He added that the issue should not be ignored, stressing the need for accountability.

“This should be thoroughly investigated and punishment meted out. El-Rufai is not too big to face the wrath of the law,” the presidential spokesperson stated.

He feels emboldened because he went scot free for saying he paid off bandits to stop the bloodshed of Nigerians. This time around, he will definitely dance to the music. On Monday when he appears at EFCC's office, he will not go back home again. He will be transferred from EFCC to DSS detention just like was done to Malami.

It's a serious offence. Politicians have destroyed this country too much, we must start to hold politicians accountable... Nigeria must take it's national security seriously. This is a serious offence. Politicians are not above the law.

What he said about government listening to our calls is nonsense and gibberish, of course, if you are being investigated, with a court order, government can listen to an individual's call...but you have no right as a private individual to wiretap anyone, talk more of the NSA. I expect full investigation and prosecution.

It is safe to assume that Boko Haram have equally wiretapped the lines of the entire top architecture of our security agencies.
And Nuhu ribadu and the entire team of NSA officials he has around him needs to be sacked. How can the NSA's line be hacked and no one in that office could detect that? Incompetence at the highest level.
