A former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has criticised former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over comments made during an interview on Arise TV, describing the alleged admission of phone tapping as callous.

Omokri, in a post on X on Friday night, argued that tapping a phone call without a court order is a crime. He added that admitting to such action publicly raises serious legal and ethical concerns.

“Tapping a phone call without a court order is a crime. Admitting to it on live television is callous. Confessing that you were an accessory after the fact to unnamed individuals in the illegal tapping of a call is an open-and-shut case of your own culpability,” he said.

He further questioned who else may have been targeted.

“Who else has mallam Nasir El-Rufai and his agents been tapping?”

“has he and his associates been helping terrorists and coup plotters to tap the phone calls of their intended victims?,” he asked.

In another post, Omokri advised El-Rufai to keep talking.

“No wonder Nasir @elrufai boasted that he would unseat President Tinubu in 2027. Has he also tapped the INEC Chairman’s phone number?.

He qdded that the situation raises questions about the push for real-time transmission of election results, arguing that if it is possible to intercept the phone of a national security adviser, then electoral technologies such as INEC’s IREV portal and BVAS devices could also be vulnerable to compromise.

“Nasir El-Rufai, keep talking. Keep digging. Keep exposing yourself,” He added.

The Tinubu is know, if he's not in collusion with El-Rufai, will not arrest him but will use the situation to his own political advantage. El-Rufai just handed an intercontinental ballistic missile to the APC, Akpabio and his caucus, the presidency, DSS, and ONSA.

I'm sure if Atiku knew El-Rufai will say this nonsense on national TV, he won't have visited him after his failed arrest at the airport.

As an opposition, what good does the "revelation" about hacking the NSA offer El-Rufai himself and the ADC?

If the Senate and the presidency come out tomorrow to say the opposition is planning to hack the INEC servers during the election, how will the opposition deny it given the present situation?

People in the opposition should be weary of El-Rufai.

The office NSA has access to most sophisticated and most encrypted security communication gadgets and it is absolutely difficult to tap Nuhu Ribadu's phone unless a much more advanced technology is used, which I doubt is accessible to anybody in Nigeria at present.

FG should not create impression that NSA's communications was actually tapped by engaging El Rufai and giving him attention. They should resist the urge punish El Rufai by taking him to court with the world watching. It sends negative message to the world particularly US that high-level discussions with Nigerian officials are not safe.

Simply and quietly do a thorough sweep of all communication systems in and around office of NSA to reassure integrity.

They can't do him nothing. You guys are saying it's a threat to INEC because you are afraid that your directive to INEC to do the wrong things might be made known. You guys are not talking about him also saying that the government is also guilty of tapping their phones. Federal government does not have the right to tap anybody's phone.

As I dey support Tinubu, the opposition dey vex me; they make it too easy for the president.
