Which brand new car goes for 12million today? Maybe the lowest models of Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, Tata, Innoson, Jac, etc?
Why must you mention managerial levels, how many are they in Nigeria?

The poster is talking about basic jobs, not executive or managerial positions.
And which manager in any of the aforementioned companies you listed would want to save money for two years to buy the lowest models of Kia/Hyundai/Jac/Nissan/Innoson/etc?
The lady is correct.
Please, she is not correct. According to her tweet, no job, blue, brown or white collar job, can enable the person buy a new car. That is a generalisation. Also, she did not imply how many people can achieve such. So, she should be specific next time, as she is false based on her tweet.

Nigeria need to look into reviving or creating a credible credit system, that's the only way to reduce corruption in Nigeria.
If Nigerians can start buying things like cars, houses, etc on loans and mortgages, it will reduce pressure on civil servants and salary earners honestly.
I thought about the same today, and the availability of public transport systems. Example: a train from Lokoja which stops in the CBD of Abuja. Most people don't need to live in Abuja before they work in the city. Also, people don't need to own a car before they can transport themselves comfortably and safely to work. Sometimes, I think our elites have an IQ problem, or it is just pure wickedness.

As for a credit system, most Nigerians are too too dishonest for such to thrive. It is better to burn money in thin air than lend to most Nigerians. They lie horribly, terribly and disgustingly.

It is the system of outright purchase at once that usually put Nigerians on pressure to commit bad things and engage in all forms of corrupt practices to meet up with demands
Agreed. I thought about it and came to the same conclusion. Our people engage in all sorts of despicable and abominable things just to achieve the basics. But lend those same people and hear stories.

How about oil company and multinational executives and managerial staff? Current MTN CEO's annual salary is over ₦1billion, so that one won't be able to buy a brand new car or his job is not legit? Some people will just be coming online to broadcast their lack of exposure

that’s why there’s no Toyota or Honda assembly plants here. Cos only 1% can afford a brand new car in a country of 250m +

Who will set up that kind plant in a country where the president elect boldly said he’ll reduce purchasing power of the citizens .

Make one mod push this to fp na
If they can set up a flexible payment option, their plants will thrive. How many Americans can afford $40k right off the bat? They pay in installments. Easybuy started it and it's been a success. CDCare is now using the same system for electronics and i bet it will be a success as well. I hope car manufacturers follow suit, we'll have more tear rubber vehicles on our roads.

Most of our parents managed to build thier houses after 50/60 years all in the name of government worker. Tufiakwa!

Fact! There such legal jobs available in Nigeria that affords you to buy a new car and house, but they are too few & minute compared to our working population in the labour force.

There is....

A brand new car is around 12-20m

An assistant manager (AM) in most Nigerian banks earn about 1.1m monthly. And they are been paid about 3.2m yearly as upfront.
Thirteenth month and leave allowance is about 1.3m

So lets assume he's saving 500k out of his monthly salary per month.

500k x 12 = 6m + 3.2m + 1.3m = 10.5m in savings yearly.

So technically speaking if you get to AM level in the banking industry, in less than 5 years you should be able to buy a tear rubber car.

So the lady's statement is not entirely true.
Which brand new car brand and model would you see for 12-20m. Abeg sufry de lie. Any brand new car would be a car model of 2023 upwards. Such would cost nothing less than 100m when you add clearing charges and custom duty to it.

The mindset of paying out of pocket and in full in one fell swoop for everything is what is making people outraged.
A Nigerian wants a house, he starts thinking how to "gather" the entire money for it.
Abroad that people drive mostly new cars, people don't pay for them at once at of pocket, they use finance facilities that enable them pay in installments. Same with housing, they use mostly mortgages.
Same with even gadgets and home appliances.

Nigerians are not future thinking people. People want everything now. Nobody wants to do anything long term.
That is why nothing works.
So debt is future thinking?

Can you do the maths of a car sold for 30,000 and financed over 5 years at 5% interest rate?

Do same for a house of 250K

Why you see 90% of westerners trapped in debt. The future has been spent and they own nothing.

Cash is king! It saves you good money and balances mental state. Not thinking about your debts 3 times a day.
Re: A Lady Sparks Outrage Online Over Jobs & Earnings In Nigeria. What Is Your Take? by yemre: 10:11pm On Feb 15
The lady's assertion is not correct. She should have rather said that very few jobs can afford a brand new car on salaries alone.

Some people earn as much as 10m per month in this same Lagos. And I mean in salary. That is outside some other allowances, interval bonuses, PS etc.

The only incontestable fact is that the percentage of such jobs is quite small compared to the working population.

So, it's a case of less than 5% earning such an amount.

But know that the road to success is not easy.

In Nigeria, opportunities are everywhere if you look closely. Communities face many unmet needs and shortages in infrastructure and services. Creating a venture that solves these problems can lead to significant success. It may not be the easiest environment for salary earners, but it offers immense potential for entrepreneurs.

Oyinbo that produces these cars don’t expect people to buy it cash down. The problem is our economy is not strong enough to buy it on monthly finance. An average person earning low wage abroad can buy it on monthly financing.
Re: A Lady Sparks Outrage Online Over Jobs & Earnings In Nigeria. What Is Your Take? by oluayebenz: 10:19pm On Feb 15
Where in the whole world will your salary buy a brand new car?

Salary earners should start thinking about financing.
Which it's easy in Nigeria.

Oyinbo dey buy brand new car with cash?

There are jobs in that pay well, the matter is entirely a skill issue, most people want jobs but they lack the skills. Imagine an civil engineer that does not know autocad or a software engineer that cannot implement a data structure.

the mere fact most people rather splurge their earnings on material items like car, tv. Instead of them to diversify their income they are thinking of purchasing a brand new car. I pity who will marry this one because you are engaging yourself with a liability instead of asset.
In Nigeria, Jobs that could get you a brand new car doesn't require skills, it require connection

Kaycee54321:
I see the point she's trying to make.

But this is a fallacy of hasty generalisation - "There is no legal job..." makes her theory absolute, rendering it false.

A mid trim 2025 Toyota Camry fresh from the factory can cost around 30K USD - roughly 40m...

To be pessimistic, call it 60m plus shipping.

There are white collar jobs that pay 6m net per month (excluding bonuses) - I know a C-suite guy earning this amount. And this guy has a boss who earns more...

There are people who have big bonuses after their multi million Naira salaries.

Professionals (like those in sales) can make unbelievable money from commissions per sale...and that can really rack up in volume depending on the type of deal brokered.

So, yes, a brand new car can be bought legally in Nigeria.

The only fact is, compared to the general population, the fraction of people who can purchase a brand new car is very small.

PS: Currently, I can't afford a brand new car. Because una no get manners here. Next thing, someone will come and say their father is claiming rich.
6m a month means 10 months of untouched pay to buy the brand new car. Now whoever is at C suite level is most likely married with grown children. Responsibilities will be numerous. So i think she is right
