There are jobs in that pay well, the matter is entirely a skill issue, most people want jobs but they lack the skills. Imagine an civil engineer that does not know autocad or a software engineer that cannot implement a data structure.

the mere fact most people rather splurge their earnings on material items like car, tv. Instead of them to diversify their income they are thinking of purchasing a brand new car. I pity who will marry this one because you are engaging yourself with a liability instead of asset.
Uncle answer the question directly and stop speaking like a cave man, have you seen anyone with these skills who acquired such cars?if yes mention one since you know all the right skills for the jobs.
We have chartered accountants, medical professors to mention a few who can't afford brand new cars with their income unless they deep their hands somewhere and you here talking of certification that Nigerians acquire on a daily

I decided to reserve my comment after seeing absolute ignorance written on the lady' s face.

It would have been better to ask what qualifications she has.

By 'job' I suppose she means formal engagement in a corporate setting.

There are a number but not many top jobs that make this possible. But regime after regime this number shrinks.

lol... You didn't get her message, she only passed the obvious reality of Nigeria.

An average tire rubber ranges between 80 - 150 million naira.

Even oil workers struggle to purchase at this price.

So na civil engineer with AutoCAD skill and data implementation for Nigeria construction industry go give the person this kind of funds to buy a tire rubber cars?

See her point, Even as an autocad expert you still need to hustle extra hard aside your autocad work or do some deals to be able land yourself a tire rubber.

People who can afford it without tears and extra hard work are politicians and CEO's and directors of banks, federal parastatals, Business moguls etc and fraudulent people.

But for a typical salary earner is impossible!

Definitely not AutoCAD, not data implementation as far as Nigeria is concerned.

Even if your salary is 5m monthly you can't save to buy a brand new car in 12 months, now the question is how many people earn 5m naira salary monthly ?

Kaycee54321:
I see the point she's trying to make.

But this is a fallacy of hasty generalisation - "There is no legal job..." makes her theory absolute, rendering it false.

A mid trim 2025 Toyota Camry fresh from the factory can cost around 30K USD - roughly 40m...

To be pessimistic, call it 60m plus shipping.

There are white collar jobs that pay 6m net per month (excluding bonuses) - I know a C-suite guy earning this amount. And this guy has a boss who earns more...

There are people who have big bonuses after their multi million Naira salaries.

Professionals (like those in sales) can make unbelievable money from commissions per sale...and that can really rack up in volume depending on the type of deal brokered.

So, yes, a brand new car can be bought legally in Nigeria.

The only fact is, compared to the general population, the fraction of people who can purchase a brand new car is very small.

PS: Currently, I can't afford a brand new car. Because una no get manners here. Next thing, someone will come and say their father is claiming rich.
You mean someone earning N6m monthly will now use his or her 10 months’ salary to go and buy a brand new car.

Other than brand new official cars given to staff, people working white collar jobs that can still buy AFFORDABLE vehicles are executives of multinationals.

If Carl ‘Toriola, of MTN, is earning N1billion per annum, he can easily afford brand new car of N70m but he can’t afford status car like brand new Lamborghini, or else, nearly all his earnings will go into it. Even that N70m is a Chinese mass-market vehicle they are just bringing to Africa, like all those Mikano, GAC etc.

The lady may be right, 99.98%.

I know executives that earns more than 30m in Nigeria
Those people you mentioned are all thieves.
What they spent monthly is far more than what they earn. They're thieves, big thieves.

Why the outrage.

Very few jobs can... less than 10-15% of jobs (top company executives) which is abysmally low.( I believe I'm being generous)

Not entirely correct if she says no jobs... but not very far off the mark as only a very few jobs can!
Not far off the market ké? She's right on the mark. Wicked politicians

Yankee101:
Oil and Gas
Banking
Information Technology
Remote Jobs

You can save and buy a brand new car from these jobs

Even abroad you buy it as a loan and pay monthly car notes not cash
Those jobs may look good, though and paying well but have you seen anyone working such job in Nigeria who paid 100% cash to get a brand new vehicle?

There hasn’t been one, all my years of working in private sector and interacting with workers across so many sectors.
They either buy graded Tokunbo or they take vehicle loan and buy a new vehicle, or they are given official vehicles.

Only vehicles like INNOSON, made in Nigeria can be bought with huge salaries of nearly 10 months, out of 12 months’ salaries in Nigeria of today.
That’s where we have less than 1% of people that can do that.

The western countries or some countries system is designed that, you may not be rich but you can use brand new cars and anything you want paying back gradually... Their system is designed can, you may not be rich yet with work hustles, you have access.

Nigeria system is designed such a way that, five generation may not own a car.

Three generation may own one pen corrola car.

Among the 5 generation, no one would be able to use brand new car except he's abroad.

How about oil company and multinational executives and managerial staff? Current MTN CEO's annual salary is over ₦1billion, so that one won't be able to buy a brand new car or his job is not legit? Some people will just be coming online to broadcast their lack of exposure
Less than 1 percent of the paying jobs in Nigeria so She is statistically cotrect

A brand new car is not entirely a liability. It could be an asset too. Think of a car that will make you easily mix with the upper class and then introduce your businesses to them and make gains. If you are trekking to them or jumping buses, they may not even give you a listening ear.

She is coming from a place of ignorance. Even today with this economy a large number of businesses buy brand new vehicles for staff in particular roles.

They call them function or status cars. For all intents and purposes the person assigned the car is the owner and will buy it at net book price after 4 years unless he is sacked. As I write this I was at a meeting with an lasg parastatal and everyone there had a brand new Toyota hilux assigned to them.

Unfortunately once you have not worked in corporate you think these things are a pipe dream

For an individual, it DOES NOT MAKE FINANCIAL SENSE TO BUY A CAR BRAND NEW. This is the same even in the West. Fininacial advisers typically recommend but a two or three year used car
So even oyibo people abroad dey buy tokumbo cars abi?

Seems you are the ignorant one here
Re: A Lady Sparks Outrage Online Over Jobs & Earnings In Nigeria. What Is Your Take? by lawani(m): 8:13am On Feb 16
She is not right though but the percentage that can afford a new car is negligible.
Why are cars expensive nowadays? Even in the high income countries it is. When my Dad returned from the UK in the 70s he was able to afford a new car. His younger brother that was an assistant lecturer at UI in the 60s could afford a new car. When my Dad was production manager in Prof Oluwasanmi's Araromi farms Ipetu Ijesa in 1981, he bought a brand new 505. What went wrong that made brand new cars so expensive? Even people in high income countries complain.

If they can set up a flexible payment option, their plants will thrive. How many Americans can afford $40k right off the bat? They pay in installments. Easybuy started it and it's been a success. CDCare is now using the same system for electronics and i bet it will be a success as well. I hope car manufacturers follow suit, we'll have more tear rubber vehicles on our roads.
Even with a flexible payment plan, there is no income to support it. Income in high income countries are on average ten times what it is in Nigeria. What Nigeria have advantage in is owning their own homes. However if our steel industry is in place, it can be possible to produce some car parts cheaper.
