Opposition Reps Shout ‘APC Ole’, Walk Out Of Plenary Over Electoral Act by InfoGuru118(op): 3:39pm On Feb 17

Opposition lawmakers in the House of Representatives staged a dramatic walkout from plenary during deliberations on the Electoral Act amendment bill.

The lawmakers left the chamber after their proposal to make electronic transmission of election results mandatory, without allowing manual collation as a fallback in cases of technological failure, was not adopted. They argued that removing manual backup would strengthen transparency and prevent manipulation of results.

However, the majority position retained manual collation as a safeguard where electronic transmission fails due to network or technical challenges, a move the opposition strongly opposed.

In a now-trending video circulating on social media, the protesting lawmakers were heard chanting “APC Ole” as they exited the chamber, signaling heightened political tensions over the proposed amendments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Dear Oga Helinues, tell your Party that Nigeria is overripe for electronic voting. Even if they won't approve of it, let them please make electronic transmission of results from the pooling unit mandatory, this isn't too much to ask for. What kind of backward country is this?

Bosman17:
How can Nigeria be ripe for mandatory transmission ONLY, when it’s not like that in countries with better infrastructure… stop being dumb!
Well, sorry to burst your bubble, if poorer African countries like Namibia and C.A.R have successfully implemented electronic voting. India did same despite their billions population number. Why can't the giant of Africa do same?

In Nigeria, if private entities like the saveAlife group could afford to integrate the use of device like a smart multi parameter monitor in their health care outlet, that send diagnostic results in real time to Doctors any where in the world. You are more dumber to think we can't replicate same in INEC.

Each device cost approximately 600k.

If the manufacturer in Germany/USA could be sourced to produce similar custom-products for INEC just as they are used in USA election, then with approximately, N120Billions, we would have about 200,000 units of this device ready available for poll in each of 187,000 polling units in Nigeria.

INEC budget for 2027 election is over 800Billions.
Take out 200b for logistics purpose, we would have more money in excess of 400B freed to solve other important issues in the country...this is my preliminary opinions, I stand to be corrected though. I don't know why APC apologist are averse to progressive ideologies. You can't support APC without sounding stupid!

E transmission of results which I created threads about as far back as 2022, the opposition supporters are just waking up from the coma to discuss it when the election is just a year plus. Discuss with who?

That shows how unserious they are

This is where we find ourselves as a nation. In a country where the president is an agbero, tout, certificate forger and a well known drug lord. What do you then expect from the rest? Terrible news! This is a clear indication that Nigeria is not ready for real development.

Tinubu out of whatever reason decided to fail Nigerians woefully and now that it is time to reward him for his brazen failure and wickedness to Nigerians, he is now running helter skelter looking for short cut to rig the election again like they did in 2023, I don't think Nigerians will take it this time after subjecting them to extreme hunger, poverty, insecurity, unemployment and people-killing tax law, no na angry angry

Re: Opposition Reps Shout ‘APC Ole’, Walk Out Of Plenary Over Electoral Act by FreeSpirited:
Nigerians are just waking up. I just hope this ones won't go back and collect lobby bribe.

For the citizens who aren't politically conscious, I want to educate you about citizen participation and how it can help us force the Lawmakers to sign the electronic transmission bill.

In any working democracy, while the sensible and responsible lawmakers are pushing for a general cause, The next immediate and expedient action is for the citizens to mobilize into protesting and demonstrating for the implementation of that cause.... Nigerians think passing a difficult law depends solely on their senator. No.

.. Everyone has a role to play... There's what we call citizen participation in democracy. And the govt don't want us to know that part and participate so as to influence outcome. A democracy where citizen don't participate by mounting pressure, passing information, protesting, mobilizing for action, such democracy can never grow beyond the tyranny of the elite and oligarchs. ... That's why our govt hate anything protest. But the citizens don't know

Since this electronic transmission issue started, Nigerians will be fooooolish if they think only lawmakers have the prerogative or obligation to make the bill be passed. If citizens don't mount pressure with protest. It will never work. Because the house of rep and house of Assembly have the majority against electronic record of vote.....
.
So Nigerians must rise up, so as to also give the few lawmakers morale to stand on their integrity to push back.
If the lawmakers don't see enough momentum by the citizens, they won't be able to do anything because they are few and they will assume manual transmission is what the majority want..... Democracy is a game of numbers in all respect.....This number is not only about voting alone..because that's the only numbers most fooooolish Nigerians think when you say politics is a game of numbers...

The more people speak up, protest, talk about and agitate for a bill the more likely for Lawmakers to bow to pressure and pass it...otherwise incumbent govt always want their way so as to remain in office by using the inec, legislative and judiciary against the people

Very good, NASS cannot be intimidated. The minority losers will have their say and the majority winners will have their way. Show us any country in the world that transmits election in real time?.

If you want real time transmission, relocate to Sudan.

Passing laws is a matter of voting in the assembly, not a matter of noise-making and showmanship.

walkout or not, whatever the majority says is the law of the land.

Who are you begging? It's our right to a free and fair election and it's not negotiable. Anything else, we call for external support as Nigeria will be declared a pariah state.
