WhiteIverson:
You say it's cheap but what is the purchasing power of majority of the citizens?

Let's compare

In Nigeria, the minimum wage is 70,000. If you were to spend your minimum wage only on 500 naira bananas, you would only be able to buy 140 pieces.

In Canada the minimum wage is $16.95. Multiply that by 40 hours weekly and also multiply by 4 weeks. You earn $2,712 dollars monthly. If you were to spend your monthly salary only on bananas at $4 dollars each, you'd be able to purchase 678 pieces.

When you want to compare prices of different countries, there are a lot of factors to consider. How do you expect the prices of bananas to be in cheaper in Canada than Nigeria?
Thanks my brother.
This your analysis makes much sense. Brings this discussion to ground level.
You must have a high IQ.

A person making that hourly pay in Ontario for 40 hours a week will take home more than $1,000 in 2 weeks.

Just wanted to say your maths is wrong, you will hardly get $2000 on this hourly income after deductions. And you don’t want to know what that means……

Here is a bunch of banana I bought for N500, this would go for nothing less than $4 in Canada, please note these are organic bananas we are talking about not the extra-sweet, GMO tampered bananas in the west and I got this in Lagos meaning folks living in the suburbs might even be buying cheaper.

I also buy I big avocado for N400, do the maths and convert to $. When next you complain about Nigeria, remember we have cheap and easily accessible fruits and vegetables.
Wow! Now let's delve in a bit.
In Canada the lowest minimum wage is 15cad per hour. Average working hours pers day in nigeria is 8 hours. So a person who works for 8 hours for the 22 working days in a months makes 15 *8*22 = 2640cad monthly. While his nigerian counterpart makes 70k monthly. 1cad is ₦1000 today. So the Canadian worker makes ₦2, 640,000 monthly.

So how many banana of this size can the Canadian guy buy 2,640,000÷ ₦4000= 660 bananas a month.

Nigerian guy ₦70, 000 ÷ 500 = 140 bananas.

For nigerian guy with 70k minimum wage to buy as many bananas as the Canadian guy can buy with his own minimum wage banana needs to be sold at ₦106.
This simply means that the so called 4cad in Canadian economy is equal to ₦106 in current nigerian economy. ( using your banana price index)

So what exactly is the fuse about. The Canadian banana is cheaper given their economy. While that of ₦500 in nigeira is expensive given our economy.

Yes, you make a good points but, with all the above, more people are still miserable over there than in Nigeria.
You do realize Nigeria is still a developing country and, we still have a long way to go but despite all that, we have it good here in Nigeria.

On band A, I have lights for about 22 hours in a day and when the light is off, the kids go to play table tennis or basketball in the compound, don’t forget we have good weather all year round in Nigeria. This week there was a mass shooting in BC Canada leading to death of 10 students. This goes to show nowhere is perfect or totally without one form of problem or the other.8
as if I no Dey band A. See careless capping.

I have Enugu on my mind end of this year. I see a 7 bedroom duplex at a ridiculous cheap price
In Nigeria, you have freedom to live anywhere you want my friend.
Also, Lagos is still a part of Nigeria so my point about Nigeria is still valid.
someone who was out of the country earning in dollars, comes back to Nigeria and claims 7bed duplex is cheap in Enugu, why won’t it be considered cheap by someone who wasn’t earning naira.

This comparison is bereft of common sense. Of course a poverty-stricken country like Nigeria cannot price its commodities like the west would. How much is your minimum wage and ask yourself if a minimum wage earner in Lagos can afford a healthy Banana.

And this banana should go for at least 1500 in Lagos urban.

Again , you've been overseas, came back to Nigeria and now using your earning power to make the distorted claim that prices are cheap.

I see average Nigerians clubbing and having fun every Friday night, come to my area and see people having fun that average Canadians never have.

Remember, the average Canadian havelike 5months in a year with extreme cold weather with people staying mostly indoors with uber boring lives.
Oga, you cannot defend this thing you are saying o! If you truly believe the average nigerian is enjoying them you are completely cut off from reality. Keep enjoying in your bubble.

There are still organic foods and fruits on Canada, just choose.

Totally wrong way to look at it.

Compare the buying power of both currencies using median national income in their domain.

I believe the median monthly income in Nigeria is ~N300,000. Your N400 banana is 0.133% of your monthly income

The median monthly income in Canada is ~$5,834. The $4 banana is 0.07% of the monthly income

So it's actually cheaper in Canada.

I don't know if I'm to call you crazy or what. You compared using the exchange rate of dollar to naira
You see how your currency has lost value for you to buy that size of banana for #500

That size of banana is $4 in US and won't exceed #50 of any currency with value.

You buy just banana with #500 of your money while someone with #500 Yuan will buy stuffs of greater value and quantity not to talk of #500 USD
It doesn't work this way , you can't just equate 500 usd to 500 naira. The minimum wagein US is about 2000usd monthly, is the minimum wage in Nigeria, 2000 naira? There is a higher chance the US minimum wage guy will sleep on the streets homeless than the Nigerian minimum wage counterpart. When i see statements like yours i know you most likely have never left the shores of Nigeria. Many are arguing with someone who left Nigeria at some point and lived in the western world to come back. I recommend leaving Nigeria for "greener pastures"on the right visa to an average struggling youth, but understand and manage your expectation so you don't feel disappointed and get confused when you arrive the supposed Eldorado.

These are cheap to you because you are using your Canadian purchasing power to buy in Nigeria. The question is: can you use your Nigerian purchasing phone to buy in Canada? The answer is "No". Therefore, a N500 banana is not the same thing as a $4 banana in Canada. Secondly, if you consider the minimum wage of these countries in question, you will see that Nigeria is no where near Canada's. So there is no basis for these comparison 😎

Can you now compare how much u save from the same work u do over there with doing it here and getting paid in naira. For someone working in Ontario, the person will still go home with more than $1,000. I am in Canada typing it. That's why I specify Ontario. Actually, the only province where they may not take up to $1,000 home biweekly is Quebec. That's after accounting for 30 mins break, both federal and provincial taxes, EI and CPP. CRA has a website where you can calculate this.
