The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, primate Elijah ayodele, has explained why he built a mosque and named it after the mother of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Mrs. Abibatu Mogaji, describing the move as a divine instruction and a message of unity.

Speaking during his annual thanksgiving ceremony held on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Oke-Afa, Lagos State, the cleric said the decision was neither political nor motivated by personal gain, but purely an act of obedience to God.
According to him, the mosque project was birthed from a clear spiritual directive he could not ignore.

“Building this mosque is not about seeking attention or trying to please anyone. It was a divine instruction from God. When God speaks, I obey. It is simply a house of worship, just like we have churches. I am not afraid of what anyone will say because I am only answerable to God,” he said.

primate ayodele stressed that the mosque would be handed over completely to a Muslim cleric, adding that he has no interest in running or controlling its activities.

“I have no intention of operating the mosque. It will be handed over to Islamic leaders. My assignment was to build it as instructed,” he added.
On why he chose to name the mosque after Mrs. Abibatu Mogaji, mother of President Tinubu, the prophet revealed that the decision was also divinely inspired.

“I initially had another name in mind for the mosque. I wanted to name it Folawuyo Mosque, but God said no. God specifically instructed me to name it after Tinubu’s mother. People may think it is political, but it is not. I didn’t name it because I want an appointment or any favour from the President. I did it because God directed me to do so,” he explained.

primate ayodele also addressed criticisms that portray him as an opponent of President Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that his action proves otherwise.

“Some people see me as someone who hates Tinubu or as an APC critic. That is not true. I speak the truth as God reveals it to me. This act shows that what I do is not personal. It is about obedience to God and promoting unity,” he said.

The cleric noted that the mosque symbolises religious harmony and peaceful coexistence in Nigeria, urging Nigerians not to allow religion to divide them.

“We must understand that religion should not separate us. There is a difference between religion and character. What Nigeria needs now is unity, and if building a mosque as a Christian leader will strengthen unity, then so be it,” he stated.

Beyond the mosque project, primate ayodele also carried out several empowerment initiatives during the event, including the donation of vehicles, tricycles, minibuses, free WAEC forms, accommodation support, sewing machines for tailors, and household appliances.

He maintained that his mission is to serve humanity and obey divine instructions, regardless of public opinion.

“As long as God is pleased with me, I am satisfied. People can say whatever they like, but when God gives an instruction, I will always carry it out,” he concluded.
