They have abandoned the "yoruba ronu" slogan, they think they can rebrand themselves as city boys, awon werey gbogbo. I believe in the redemption of Nigeria, and it starts with the fall of APC |

From what amount to what amount...100% increase can be N100k to N200k. The school just wants more NELFUND money from Govt, and they cannot get it without increasing your tuition fees lol. Govt pays Universities based on these students' fees. Glimpsetv: |

Emzedz:What of the NELFUND loans that have enough money to cover all students affected by the hike in school fees caused by city boy’s hyperinflation economy ![]() In any case, if you are not working with other patriotic Nigerian 🇳🇬 people to unite the opposition, how can we not end up with Tinubu as life president? Opposition politicians united around the brainbox of PDP’s 16 years of prosperity, driven by deregulation and privatisation policies. |

Hungrychicken:100k? Just £50 or $70? Even in naija context that is quite a low amount for university education. Oga medicine in babcock is over 10m per session, law is 3.3m with 2 ice daily feeding for final year students, for 100l it is likely 2ice that amount. How much is the cheapest private nursery school in Lagos that you want to pay 100k for a whole university education? |

LZAA:N3k? No wonder. They must believe that they are richer than others when they comment more, and the proceeds can make them secure an apartment at Bourdilon. |

SamuelLoch:I am not sure of what you are talking about. I am responding to you because you include my post. Given that you include Tinubu education overseas shows that you seems not to know what you are talking about. additionally, thinking that #200,000 tuition for medical education at UNN is slave mentality shows that you absolutely did not have an idea of what you are talking about and that is one of the reason among many reasons we are having problem in Nigeria. I schooled in Nigeria and one of the poorest during my time. In my time because I could not come up with #20 second semester registration , I had to pay #40. Because I didn't have bank account and did not know anyone with checking account I had to walk for more than two hours going from one bank to the other in Marina and Apapa Lagos until a good Samaritan employee of a bank help me to buy the bank draft from his own account. I told you that story to let you understand that you are not talking to someone who doesn't understand the benefit of free/subsidised education. The point of my posting is that #200,000 for medical education tuition is practically free education. Education is a very expensive endeavor in any part of the world. Nigeria 2025 budget was $36.5 billion. New York University budget for 2025 was about $18 billion, that is just one university in the US. You can see the difference. Even if Nigeria is ranked as the least corrupt country in the world, we still can not provide quality medical education absolutely free like Germany and some other developed countries. Some of these countries population is not up to 25% of our population and their per capita GDP dwarfed our own. I will admit that i don't know much about their education system. However, given your false assertion regarding education in the US. You claimed "They were fed for free, daily, across all levels of education! Eating chicken and cow everyday on campus.", I believe your assertion of those countries may not be true Unless you are on scholarship, United States government yes subsidized education heavily. They however, don't feed all students free with chicken and cow across all level of education. Yes, if you are poor , they will provide you free breakfast and lunch in elementary and secondary school but in higher education. In the united states, you are required to pay your full tuition. You can apply for loan and grant base on the income reported on your tax return. If you are middle or upper class, you may get zero grant and therefore will be required to take government loan and if what you qualify for in government loan is not enough to pay your tuition you can go to private bank to borrow more. If you are going to school ranked in the category of UNN (highly ranked in Nigeria, could be considered Nigeria Ivy league) No matter how poor you are, government grant most likely will not cover your tuition. You will have to get loan, some rich universities may offer you need based scholarship but not for you to live large. That is undergraduate. Medical school is a different ball. unless your parent is rich or extremely brilliant to get scholarships. You would consider yourself lucky if you graduate medical school with less than $250,000 in student loan. Having said all that, the system is far better than Nigeria. |

toprealman:It is medical education. What is the cost of medical education in US, Canada or UK versus the minimum wage in those countries? |

obonujoker:That is what they are trying to copy from oyibo. You know our government only copies the evil practices from abroad. But to create something that will benefit everyone in Nigeria, never ever. It is not as if the curriculum has changed or improved. Nothing of value has been established. No new drug discoveries. Nothing. Zero. But school fees will increase 100% because that is what Oxford University in UK is charging |

Dijita:1. Someone that could not afford N20 is now calling N200,000 school fees "practically free education" Mr man, do you know that there are people today who can not afford this your free N200,000 just like you were walking 2 hours on the streets of Lagos because of N20 a while ago? Maybe you have gone abroad and now that money is small change for you. Well done. 2. This medical school you are trying to defend them doubling the price, what breakthroughs have they given us? Apart from graduating students that leave the country (not only from medical school, other departments too dey comot), is there any project anyone in world can point to and say "this was from the effort of the Nigerian medical school system" ? Nothing. No. zero. But it is okay to double the school fees because it is practically free education, then next year dey double it some more. |
| Re: UNN Medical Students Protest 100% School Fees Increase (photos/video) by Dijita: 8:23pm On Feb 19 |
legionISproteus:The fact that I could not afford it does not mean it is not free education. I am not defending them. I am complaining just like you are complaining. The difference between me and you is that I can distinguish between the cost of education and it's affordability. United states is among the best education in the world as well as the most expensive. They however, help with affordability. How many poor man picking can afford medical education in Nigeria? Instead of charging reasonable cost and then provide a way for those that are poor to be able to afford it, we subsidized for everybody to the benefit of the rich and determents of everyone else. |

Dijita:I see comprehension issues here. I didn't say US was feeding them cow and chicken daily. That happened in Nigeria here. We heard the stories... Even lecturers confessed to us while on campus. You've written so much without justifying the reason for a sudden 100% hike. Meanwhile, this is the second hike in about 3 years. Don't worry. In the coming years, you'll walk into the hospital to see for yourself or read reports on shortage of qualified medical practitioners. A few days ago, it was a report of no anti-venom right? More is underway. Go and read about Zimbabweans health sector collapse. Seriously, there is no justification for the hype. Since they increased school fees, there has been no major facility or equipment deployments to schools all over Nigeria by the federal government. They just want to tie people down here with loans and debts so they have people to oppress and can always write to USA, UN, World Bank, IMF, AFDB, etc. for help. A new administration would come in and student debt pardon would be part of the manifesto that will win the hearts and votes of people. If they deploy anything between now and the elections, it's strictly campaign tactics. |

Dijita:Here we go again. If you don’t study medicine in those countries you weirdly use as a benchmark, it’s your choice. They have enough FACILITIES to make sure you go to school , with ZERO impact on your PARENTS. Look inwards and stop comparing apples with pears! |

SamuelLoch:Comprehension issue? May be you should read what you wrote? You mention Tinubu . Tinubu as we are all aware went to university in US at least that is what he claimed . Go back and read my original post. The focus of my post was that 100% is relative when you don't specified the actual amount. |
