You have no idea what you are talking about. The job of a radiographer is not to interprete, but rather to acquire medical images. AI has no effect on radigraphy.

Someone has to prepare patient, put them in the appropriate clothing, position them for the imaging procedure, take the necessary radiation protection measures and acquire the image. Physical interaction with the patient is needed, so radiography is pretty safe.

I studied radiography in for my Bachelors, practiced a bit, then acquired more training and moved to another field. But I will not discourage anyone from studying the course.
Don't mind them. People with little or no idea about the profession will just come here to give unfounded information. Wonder if it is AI that will prep the patient and position them for the right anatomy in profile. Then produce and critic the images for quality. Protect the patient from radiation and transmit the images. What they fail to know is that its a very hands-on job that requires physical contact and lots of safety measures because not all patients are the same. Some have fracture, others dislocation, some pneumonia, edema, effusion. stroke etc. Patient care approach for each of them is different. Then, also consider the vast population and different lifespan demographics. Neonates, infants, children, adultescents, young adult. elderly and older adult. The reality is that patients variation is vast. It will be hard to set up an automated system that can handle such variation. Even at that, they are not even asking who does ultrasound, MRI, CT etc. Those are some of the different branches in radiography which are also in high demand.

Carpenters and truck drivers also get PR to Canada. I wonder when we Africans would grow above going to university simple because of "food to eat". huh

Chiefupper:
A friend of mine was given PR in Canada because he studied this course

@Moskido That's wonderful! Your brother is doing great! I'm a graduate now and honestly, 300 level is when things start getting really exciting — that's when you start clinical postings and get hands on experience.

My advice? Tell him to build strong relationships with his senior colleagues and the Radiographers in the department during clinical rotations. Those connections are gold for internship placements and career growth later!

I hope he is enjoying the program so far...

My brother is currently in UNIBEN reading radiography!! He is in 300level now

AI is taking over that course. With artificial intelligence using pattern recognition, i will not recommend anyone studying that course now, except radiography technicians to fix the equipment.

Many people are still underestimating the coming tsunami effect of AI on careers/jobs in the next 5-10 years. It will do a better job than any human radiographer. if you doubt, upload your xray for analysis on chat gpt 5.2, a basic AI and see how well it will analyse and tell you the result.
@chinchum Here's what AI cannot do:
• Position patients correctly for imaging
• Operate imaging equipment safely
• Apply radiation protection protocols
• Make clinical decisions in real-time
• Provide patient care and communication
• Take legal responsibility for diagnostic accuracy
AI is just there to aid efficiency — they cannot do the physical job. Radiography is a hands-on profession that requires human interaction, technical skills, and on-the-spot decision-making that no algorithm can replicate.
The reality is that AI is a tool that enhances what Radiographers do, not a replacement. Just like calculators didn't replace mathematicians, AI won't replace Radiographers — it will make skilled ones more valuable.

wunmi590:
You are right, i did upload my x-ray on it and it analysed it in detail, infact the way the radiographer did, he even did a better job than him....
@wunmi590 — ChatGPT can describe patterns it recognizes from training data, but it has no legal standing to diagnose. The Radiographer you mentioned would still be the one legally responsible for patient care and image quality.
The future isn't "Radiographers vs AI" — it's "Radiographers who use AI vs Radiographers who don't."

Eniolohunda:
You are right. I'm a nurse in the states and I recognize how valuable radiography is and I'm also trying to encourage the younger ones to consider it. It's always good to do the course that can make you independent.
@Eniolohunda — Thank you so much for this! Coming from a healthcare professional in the US, your perspective means a lot.
You're absolutely right about the independence aspect — that's one of the things I love most about Radiography. You can build a career that gives you options and flexibility.
I'm hoping more young people see threads like this and consider it seriously. Thank you for encouraging the younger generation! 🙏

TONYE001:
Radiography is a very lucrative profession in healthcare.

It's also relatively easier for radiographers to migrate and link up with international positions on the global platform...compared to some of the healthcare disciplines including medicine.

My only worry is the associated hazard.
@TONYE001 — Exactly! The global migration opportunities are a huge advantage that many people don't realize.
You're right about the radiation hazard concern though — that's why radiation safety protocols are a core part of our training. With proper protective equipment (lead aprons, dosimeters, shielding) and following ALARA principles (As Low As Reasonably Achievable), the risk is minimal.
Many Radiographers work 20-30 years with no health issues because safety is taken very seriously in the profession.

GorillaApp:
How is Ai playing a role?
I know one several years ago. He has engagement with several hospitals and clinics. They are in short supply. Na this kind field I dey like
@GorillaApp — Great question!
AI is transforming Radiography in really exciting ways. AI tools now help detect abnormalities in X-rays and scans faster than the human eye, and can also flag issues with image quality before images are sent for interpretation.
But Radiographers who understand how to work WITH AI are becoming more valuable, not less. The key is: AI can't replace the human judgment, patient care, technical positioning skills, or the real-time decision-making we bring. It just makes us more efficient and accurate.
That's why I believe Radiography students who embrace digital trends will be the most sought-after in the coming years!
Have you considered Radiography yourself or do you work in the field?

harsysky:
I had a friend who chose radiography then and some folks thoght he must have lost his brain. It didn't take the guy much time to relocate just because the course is being sought-after even in many European countries. It is an untapped niche
@harsysky — Wow, thank you for sharing this! Your friend's relocation story is exactly what I'm talking about.
The fact that Radiography is sought-after in European countries shows the global demand for this skill. Many people don't realize how valuable this qualification is internationally.
You're absolutely right — it's an untapped niche, especially in Nigeria where most students are chasing Medicine, Law, and Engineering. Those who discover Radiography early have a real advantage.
Thanks for adding this perspective! 🙏

My son was given radiography last year but we insisted he sit for another jamb to get the desired course but unfortunately he still didn't get it this year but was given unrelated course . quite painful
@Ndidi2 — I'm really sorry to hear about your son's experience. The JAMB process can be so frustrating, especially when students don't get their first choice.
But here's something to consider: many people who "settled" for Radiography (myself included!) ended up grateful in the long run. It might not have been his first choice, but it could turn out to be a better path than what he originally wanted.
The key is helping him see the opportunities in Radiography — the global demand, the work-life balance, the financial stability. Sometimes what feels like a setback becomes a blessing.
If he's open to giving it a real chance, I'd be happy to share more resources or answer any questions he might have. He can check out my blog (link in my original post) or feel free to ask here!
Wishing your son all the best. 🙏

i get your point and agree with most of it, however i feel the real hard work is now moving in to the hands of Artificial intelligence, not to rain on your parade as a radiographer, basic equipment handling begins to look like what a 6 months diploma nursing assistant / radiographer assistant can do. I concede that it is possible i am not looking at it holistically enough.

He going to do this jamb again
I hope he gets it
We are more flexible now
I know radiography wasn't a bad course but you that kind thing naw- Thinking he will be better next time
We are open to radiography now.
