I am sharing this to protect others on this platform.

I posted an ad looking for a graphics designer on Nairaland. Someone replied and we moved to WhatsApp. He sounded professional, sent samples, and seemed legit. He asked for payment upfront before starting the job. I paid 15,000 naira.

He started turning me and eventually no reply again. Funny enough, he used 2 numbers to chat with me simultaneously. Beeing that I wan variety, I was ready to take both party. I sent money after back and forth and till now he ghost me. Money gone. No work done.

Lesson learned

- Never pay 100% upfront to anyone you meet on Nairaland
- Scammers are active here daily
- If they insist on full payment before any work, walk away

I have his bank details if anyone needs them to avoid this person.

Be careful everyone.

Wow. I remember i contacted you for the job but you said only Figma to design book cover. But someone else then contacted me saying he was you for the same job. I sent two book covers with watermark, since then no response from the person. I started using watermark when people would get the work and then ghost me. I never ask for payment before work so that all this wont occur. It is well. I can do the job if you want. No payment upfront. People like that make it hard for us to find good jobs here.

Even when nairaland has escrow services offered by trusted members and this happened? What exactly do you guys need to be done again.

So I can send you a private message and tell you I'm Seun or Dominique or even Dangote and you'd just straight away believe me.. common. Sorry about your loss but next time use escrow service and at the minimum, request that you be quoted with the Monika the person is claiming to be.

Sorry for your loss of 15k, OP. There are lots of scammers on Nairaland. Never send money upfront for any business transaction on this forum. Tell them to bring what they are selling to your place and when you see your goods, you can then pay the seller/trader. For graphic design jobs, do your homework by asking them to send the job first, and tell them they can report you if you don't pay. There are lots of honest graphic designers on Nairaland. Cheers.
