I'm so upset and want some advice.

I caught my nanny mixing cough syrup into my baby's milk. My baby is only 5 month's and I've only had a nanny for 1 month.
Baby seems fine and I'm still monitoring.
Nanny claims it's the first time but of course she will lie about it. The cough syrup bottle is already less than half.

Please advise what to do.
I'm so angry I can't think straight

You are of course asking us after you've already sacked the nanny who was poisoning your 5 month old baby only once.

Right?

Not yet, but inevitably of course.
I'm keeping her for the next 48 hours while my baby is being observed and monitored. In case anything untoward happens, will have to involve the police.

Arrest her and move on with your life. The only reason the nanny did that is to induce the baby to sleep so she can have a time of her own.

But I don't understand how you people leave the care of your infants to strangers especially at such tender age when they can barely do anything on their own.

If you're career focused, leave parenting until the time you can be there for your child. Parenting is a full time job and most infant deaths are as a result of carelessness of the parents

If you know me, you'll know the nanny's involvement with my baby is minimal, and this is only her first month, which is why the whole thing is shocking. I take on your advice in good faith and thank you but i reject the suggestion that I'm careless.

I'm sorry if you interpret what I said as you being careless. That's wrong. I'm just pointing out a leading cause of child mortality. You employed a nanny to help you with your child, that's not a sign of carelessness but you going extra miles for your own kids.

Good luck to you

I appreciate the clarification, thank you.

Cough syrup contains some serious drugs .... not that it will kill the baby ...but depending on how much was given and how the body was able to handle it.... except for dropping to sleep ..... you may not see immediate effects but may have long term effects .... more likely on the brain. Just saying .... not in the medical field
