Youths have k!lled a snake that k!lled a young man identified as Aondona Ahemba Christopher in a community in Benue State.

It was gathered that Christopher d!ed after a snake bite occurred on February 17, 2026.

An eyewitness Barnabas Dzawua, who confirmed the incident on Wednesday, said youths in the community went to the scene, searched for the snake and killed it.

"This is the snake that k!lled Aondona Ahemba, the youths went to where the snake bite him and searched for it and killed it," he wrote.
And some people in NL said snake is not harmful. Just imagine this long rope killing an agile young man

Extracting antivenom doesn't work like that.

These snakes are just every where. Saw one yesterday (Sunday) on the fence of a bushy land. And guys do play on one side of the land.

Oh dear, where to start

1. Antivenom exists in Nigeria

2. The problem is,the research group that makes it can only make some thousands of vials. Not enough for a country our size

3. Two big pharma companies used to make snake venom for Africa, but they stopped over ten years ago..no money in it.

4. We are even lucky. Apart from Nigeria and south Africa , no other African country has indigenous antivenom manufacture. That means across Africa there is a scarcity of antivenom

Snake has always been the enemy of humanity even till date,there should be no mercy for snake small or big, venomous or not,it should be eradicated.

Snake bite is basically death sentence in Nigeria.

Even after the death of that lady, no government hospital has made it a priority to stock up on anti-venom.

This should be something Federal or State Medical Centres should have if Primary Healthcare Centre cannot get them.

But as usual, we will move on and continue to look for the next ADC vs APC, Peter Obi vs Tinubu, Wike vs Fubara story or go to church and pray that snake will not bite us.

The problem is while we make some antivenom here in Nigeria, the people that make it cannot scale it up to a point where it would be available all over Nigeria

Problem with antivenom is it has to be made from native snake venom. That means that importing it won't work ( and may even cause problems health wise).

Once ,two major pharma companies used to make a lot of antivenom for the African continent. But they stopped because they were losing money. Antivenom is very expensive to make. It is not like making Panadol. That's also why the research group that makes it can't make enough for the whole country, even with government and help from the UK.

That's why we can't have antivenom everywhere. Unless some big pharmaceutical company decides to invest again in it's manufacture ( and lose money as well)

Snake season. if you live in a bushy area, be very careful.

This is getting out of hand. One wonders how this should continue to be so.

The FG, states and LGs must collaborate with the health authorities to find anti venoms and make them easily accessible to the whole country.

Citizens, irrespective particularly those in rural areas must be extra cautions in the farms and other snake prone areas around them.

Again, citizens must be warned that they most dangerous species of snakes on earth can be found innNigeria too. There must be plenty of caution at this period.

If you reside in snake prone areas, there are simply steps that you can take to trap snakes around you.

This is scary. May God grant his family the fortitude to bear the loss. Chai!
