Mix bag. The engineering grads got sent to the UK for engineering training pretty early. We (business GTs) didn’t meet them in Bonny when we resumed a few weeks after they had resumed and “jakpa’d”.

Also the 2017 GTs were a bit older than your average GTs as the process had taken 4 years when we resumed. So most had gotten married by the time they resumed. But yeah for a young lady, NLNG money can be very long that your average young guy no go get liver to toast. Plus the general culture in NLNG can make you come across as proud. I’m not saying NLNG folks are proud, but being an NLNGer means you start thinking and acting differently (more circumspect and safety conscious) and many people may see it as proud. Safety mindset is very very high there so basic safety things you start doing can put off some people. I remember always disconnecting phone charger from the wall whenever it wasn’t charging a phone and I got told “Which kain forming you dey form?”

Overall though, any fresh GT should have a financial plan laid out from day 1. Don’t let higher pay lead to higher expenses. And YES, you work hard. Very hard
Interesting 😹😹😹, so they don’t send Biz outside too😹😹😹…

One more question boss…how does the accommodation look like in Bonny?? Shared rooms??

No o. They send Business abroad as well. Just not as long as Engineers.

As for the accommodation. You get an entire one bed or two bed to yourself

When you get an offer letter from NLNG and accept it, you are a full time staff with all the benefits that accrue. Entitled to all the “gbemu” (our slang then for the fat fat things that will be hitting your bank account)
No doubt, however, it was different for the HND guys (trainee technicians and trainee operators) they are only confirmed as permanent staff after a period of time, not immediately they receive their offer letters, unlike GTs who are regarded as permanent full-time staff from the first day.

However, the Trainee technicians that came in around Sept/Oct last year broke the jinx as they were the very first set of trainee technicians in the history of the company to be confirmed as permanent full-time staff from day 1.

Regarding training school, both technical and non-technical GTs attend training school at Lagos Business School, runs for about 6 weeks, after which they get posted to their various departments, from there they go on rotations usually within the same division to build your exposure to the business and further identify where your skills will be most valuable to the business.

Your GT development program may contain a training that must be taken abroad (if you’re lucky enough) but that shouldn’t even be your issue because you’ll be able to afford trips on a first class flight if you want to, so training or not, you’ll fly as much as you want.

By September you guys should have resumed at LBS, that’s if ceteris paribus.

To those who don’t get in, trust me, there are a zillion tons of places that are better than NLNG, we had GTs who rejected the offer, not like they even left the country, they’re still within Naija, I could mention at least 4/5 O&G companies that beat the NLNG offer, so don’t beat yourself, people are living their best lives without knowing that NLNG exists, even the ones who accepted the offer, still resign when they find greener pastures elsewhere, when you come in, you’ll really understand that your wants are insatiable and you’ll be wondering why you’d be looking at advertisements for LNG Canada, Saudi Aramco, TotalEnergies, Chevron etc when you’re in NLNG.

You’ll surely work for your money, but it’s more than worth it, you’ll see different classes of folks, my advice is to treat everyone as you’d want to be treated, whether they’re direct staff of partners, do not segregate anyone, cause you’ll soon find out that those partners are they keys to doing your job effectively and passing your appraisal.

Hopefully you make it to the AC, that’s another opportunity to understand the people there.

I can corroborate your statement that they’d start looking at job openings at Saudi Aramco, QatarGas and all the other big players in no time. And to everyone, that euphemism “staff of partners” means contractors in simple English. Treat those guys right abeg.

I actually heard that 22 GTs got sent to LBS. Is that now permanent? And training is 6 weeks now? Really?!

Lagos Business School (LBS) is in Ajah, Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos but I do not know if NLNG makes use of it for training.

Yeah, it is, part of the Nigerian content scheme I think, rather than take all of them abroad, let them do their generic trainings at LBS, then when they get to their departments, they’ll start technical trainings as required.

So I studied computer science, a science course. But during the test, the option that relates most with my field of study is information technology (including software engineering). that's just how it was listed among the options.
I just want to know if this means I'm applying under engineering or if by God's grace I'm successful, I'll be an engineering GT.?

Not at all, your placement will be largely based on your course of study, but there could be exceptions if you’ve got some experience in other areas.

Engineering
Legal
Business
Finance
Information Technology

I’ve got Biochemists in areas that aren’t related to science (due to their past experience), and I’ve got other biochemists in engineering and safety roles.

Just try coming in first, you’ll surely be placed in a suitable role where you’ll be able to contribute meaningfully.

Can’t say much, other than the fact that if you’re a lawyer and you perform well in the recruitment process, even if there isn’t an opening in the legal roles, you will be placed in another department where you can function. Can’t confirm the number of candidates to be recruited for any discipline, but it’s based on business’ needs.

Just don’t think about the number of candidates to be recruited, just ensure you do your best and see your team mates and other candidates as your colleagues rather than opponents, it’ll help you focus during the AC.

P.S I’m a female, so you can refer to me as the female version of a chief’s title.

Phew! It feels good to finally be able to post after being forced to stay mute for an entire week. This feels like coming late to a party when everyone has left. Regardless, I'll just say a few things.

I wrote my test last week Tuesday and boy, oh boy, that numerical reasoning was something. Whilst doing the SHL practice test, I had a variety of questions ranging from pie charts to bar charts and line graphs. But during my actual assessment, I was given 5 pie charts back to back, followed by a bar chart.

I was able to solve the pie charts, but while solving the bar chart question, the time was almost up, so I panicked and clicked 'next' only to see a line graph question just 3 seconds before my time ran out. I was so pained that I couldn't solve the easy one.

In all, I don't know how I did because it's giving "Omoh!" but still, fingers crossed while holding on to my current job (that I just got, by the way) for dear life.

On a different note, I've been reading a lot of great minds here and I can't overemphasize how lucky we are to have you as sages to guide us to the promised land—or in this case, Bonny Island. 😁

PS: This thread just might be the shortest in the history of NLNG GT Recruitment threads.

I also think the 2015 elections affected it. Transitioning from a PDP government to an APC administration must've taken a toll on the company due to changes in policies.

When I look back at that year, I remember how everyone villainized Goodluck only to experience the worst government ever, and we haven't even recovered till date.

In case this post comes out looking weird, you'll have to forgive me. I'm just learning the ropes of this nairaland thingy.

Righttttt?

Prior to last year September, I didn't know anything about NLNG. Then, I went ahead and did a deep dive into the rabbit hole, and everything I found out about the company—especially the compensation—has given me sleepless nights. What do you mean people in their 20s can earn that much from a white collar job?

You didn't exaggerate about that routine at all, but it's always disappointing when I come here only to realize that people haven't posted since the last time I checked. That, and refreshing my gmail over a thousand times.

A quick backstory. So, last year, I missed out on an opportunity with GTB because I didn't check my mail early enough to see that they had sent the link for the second assessment. By the time I checked, the time had elapsed and no amount of reaching out and sending them emails did anything to rectify the situation. I've always beaten myself up about it since then. But with the way NLNG gives prior notice for their assessments and with the help of this thread, I know I can never have a recurrence of such.
