Guys, what are the odds of a roof leak after solar panels installation and has anyone here experienced that?

if you intends using Solar panels, this money no go easily fly Ooo.

Either way, if you within Lagos or Ogun state, I could be of help BUT still, budget 500,000 naira to be on safer side especially if you intends using Solar panels

I can stretch to 500k if it will serve well.
Solar is not in that budget at all, just a basic backup system to augment NEPA power.

I'm in Lagos, I'll be grateful for any help I can get.

then it's possible depending how much backUp time you expects.

Kindly remind us of your loads and those that are essential at Night time.

Can you please share the breakdown of your setup ?

Unfaized:
7 months in and my lithium battery still holding full capacity even with 2 heavy AC use, electric iron, oven, washing machine and basically every load on a daily. Best decision I made thanks to listening to expert opinions on this thread, meanwhile my in-law don park his load of LA batteries after just a year+ on much lighter loads.

Even the lithium-ion batteries I got for my rechargeable fan has outperformed the 2 LA which barely lasted 3 months for each replacement.

Bottom line is, LA batteries are a very bad investment choice for new and intending users. Use your money wisely once and for all!

Key loads:
Freezer of 110W
Laptop 65W
Phone + Light, Fans, etc 150W

I'm okay with 4-5 hours of backup.

It is not possible with 500k, don't put hope at all.

4 to 5hrs of freezer is a premium taste

1200whr of battery will give u 960whr with 80% DoD and you listed a load of 400whr

divide 960/400, then you will get your backup time, all other things assumed ok nii oo!!

Get the following:
4 lifepo4 Cells 12v (4.2kwh) =360k or less
Balancer = 18k or less
3kva Satchet inverter = 100k
Grid charger = 40k or so.

Total = roughly 520k

Mind you, the biggest load here is the freezer which you can run alone for over 30hrs. Your laptop will not be plug in all through and lightings only come up at night. Fans will run fully at night without freezer.

With time you will add add solar panels and be power dependent.

Baba use your sense it will work

I don't mind sachet or used if it's functional and reliable.

budget is ₦400k -> ₦450k.

I don't think my total load is up to 400W continuous.
Buy the itel power tank with 450w panel and save your self stress

Are you sure you know what you are saying Sha? My freezer consumption is 85w but surge power is 680w. My 100ah battery powered my freezer only for over 12hrs

What's the essence of using solar without solar panels, "what if" national grid collapse n his freezer is loaded with stuffs, then pressure will now certainly set in to mount solar panel.

Let's try n work with his budget n here's my opinion

100ah 12.8v battery @230k
1kva hybrid inverter 165k
530watt jinko panel 98k
Cable n MCB 30

Total 523

U don't necessarily have to charge with nepa cos of inevitability of funds to buy protective kits against surge

Except you're used to buying Alaba shiny fake batteries, 7-months is too short a time to give any praises. Wait for like minimum of 2 years first. Those with quality leadAcid battery rarely see any decline for the first 3 years except they abused it. Those who purchased Alaba leadAcid batteries (those fake batteries with funny generic names) begin to see decline within 7-months and above.

once again, every technology has got it's place. tapeDrives are still in use today even by very big companies such as google despite being much slower than hardDisk which in turn is much slower than SSDs. e get why

from experience, most people who use inverter without solar panels tend to spoil their batteries overTime. A lot of inverters don't recharge batteries well + the fact the NEPA light is rarely regular enough hence they end up doing to their inverter + battery system what rechargeAble fans suffer.

My suggestion would be to use Solar panel even if it's just 2pcs. A budget of 500,000 naira is well enough to handle that. That way, His freezer runs during the day between hours of 10am to 3pm daily.

Actually d choice is left for him to pick, like oyinbo would say, cut ur cloth according to ur material n not ur size... u may never see a person that's solely on nepa yet load his/her freezer with stuffs cos of the uncertainty of Nigeria n everything inside it not excluding humans too grin

Thanks for this boss.

This looks nice.
I can still look into expanding and mounting panels in the future, just need to organize some other things (not just the money).

I have a question. How fast the can the charger fill up the battery?
is it configurable by charger?

Also, I will work to never drop below 20%, or of there's a way to configure the inverter to cut-off earlier as well to avoid draining too deep.
I want to avoid the issue raised here by @bassdow

The said charger can charge to 14.6v by default.

Infact it will be nice you squeeze out fund to get at least 1 Jinko 555w or higher to manage and do "use and charge on the go".

After first full charge, manage your load accordingly. The problem is that most of us are energy wasters. With this your freezer will run at least 6 hrs daily.

If you dont discharge below 13.0v which is highly possible based on the above loads, you may likely disconnect from grid. grin

The journey will begin with first fully charged 4.2kwh energy storage..

4.2kwhr for 360k or less.

Okay. I guess this means the cells will have to be assembled and combined with the balancer.

How will I go about this and the rest of the setup?

kindly share with us when you achieve your solar goal with 500k that will power your loads...

cells only for 360k, how much BMS will he buy with it, 30K abi, casing etc unko? no go enter express like this oo

Is like you don't just wish him well at all.
Some of you just believe a system won't work without bms.

His set up will look like this with just an active balancer.

I often find it difficult giving quotes without having idea of max budgets as what we might give might end up not being useful due to costs

for the PV cable (the wire coming from the solar panels on top the roof to your apartment), budget 25m length of cable be it Aluminium or copper depending on budget.

for freezer of 20Litre, I want to presume you meant 200 litre.

for inverter, go for minimum of 3.5kva or 5kva as cost difference ain't much. Feel free to do hybrid or standard inverter. Could be 24v or 48v though I tend to suggest 48v but then it largely depends on your budget as battery dey wait for you.

for batteries, go for leadAcid or Lithium batteries based on your preference and if you trust your vendor.

If not Hybrid inverter, then you need an external charge contorller, go for minimum of 60A MPPT and again depending on budget, budget anywhere from 80,000 naira for NEW or USEd one.

For solar panels, you would be needing a minimum of 4pcs of 400w mono solar panels new or used based on budget.

then budget for circuit breakers and the likes including installation
Thank you sir, do you have an idea how much a rough estimation would be?

issue is, a lot of us don't know what Active Balancer is, nor do we even know the actual duty of BMS.

Same way a lot of us don't know you could use Solar to charge batteries without Charge Controller even when the inverter ain't Hybrid
