A crisis is currently brewing in the Edo State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following the exclusion of several party leaders from a meeting scheduled to hold at the residence of the party’s National Leader, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.

Among the leaders shut out of the meeting were former Chief Whip of the Senate, Sir Rowland Owie; one of the founders and financiers of the party in the state, Sunny Aguebor; a national leader of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Douglas Iyike; and others.

It was gathered that Odigie-Oyegun scheduled the meeting at his residence, and when the members arrived, they were shown a list of those invited.

This development left the members infuriated and led them to take over the entrance to Odigie-Oyegun’s compound until a unit of police officers, said to have been sent from the State Command, arrived and spoke with the members, after which they left the place.

Speaking to journalists, Owie called on the National Leadership of the ADC to call Odigie-Oyegun to order.

He said, “We who are here are founding members of the ADC. We are supposed to have a meeting today. Chief John Oyegun, who has done nothing to support the party in this state, is calling non-members to a meeting and excluding statutory members.

“As a matter of fact, the senatorial meeting was to be called up to four or five times. He stopped it and will postpone it. As we are talking, we have been everywhere in this state, especially here in Edo South, where we are raising members for the party. Ask him how many people he has attracted to this party?

“We are telling the national leadership of the party that enough is enough of John Oyegun. This was how he was as the National Chairman of the APC, and he was removed with ease. Enough is enough; he cannot disrespect those who are building the party.”

Contacted, Odigie-Oyegun said he was still in the party’s leadership meeting and would speak on the issues after the meeting.

Wasn't this how it went down in LP?

They had internal crisis in LP until it transmuted into fractional parties, but throughout the crisis, Obi was always pointing fingers at Tinubu, APC, and the FG. He and his obidents said Tinubu was the one causing friction to destabilize the LP. Instead of sitting down with aggrieved members and negotiating and reconciling with them, Obi chose the easy road by pointing fingers to people who had no business with his party. He even went as far as saying "Tinubu should instruct the INEC chairman to come into LP and resolve their crisis"... Imagine that stinking sentence coming from a presidential candidate.

The same thing is happening now. You have internal crisis that is enveloping ADC in Edo, such that gunmen attacked you and a former governor of the state. Instead initiating a high level meeting with top ADC members and the factional members to negotiate and reconcile, you are pointing the blame at Tinubu, APC, FG, and the Edo State governor.

In contrast, the entire nation saw how Tinubu, in real time, resolved the crisis between Fubara and Wike TWO TIMES. It takes a hardworking, extremely skillful, highly respected man with grit to pull off something like that. From meeting with them, to negotiation, to emergency rule, to more negotiations, to more meetings. If na Obi be president, I can't even imagine how he would have handled the crisis. Do you know what it takes to rein in someone like Wike? Do you?

BTW, Edo ADC crisis aside, the crisis in LP that Obi said Tinubu was causing is the same crisis he and his obidents have imported into ADC. They came barely two months and they started destroying the party. I said this in January: 👇

In fact, they are praying you live well beyond 2027 and you contest so no stranger they don't know will come in and replace you. Can Atiku and Obi ever manage a party for once? These two men have shown that they are incapable of handling party politics. Failure at party level politics is where the real failure begins.

Atiku couldn’t manage PDP. Obi could not handle LP. It is not about jumping from party to party. Tackle the challenges where you are. With this drama playing out, it is your own party agents that will sell out your votes to the ruling party in the general elections.
