This is a very valid concern. Is it possible to do really well in inductive and numerical reasoning, but still be disqualified due to incompatibility in the Job-focused assessment?

If yes, that would be quite a shame for those who are super confident in their answers for the others.

I dare say it is the most relevant lol
Big companies are big (pun intended) on culture fit
I was dropped from Seplat’s process in 2024 for failing what they called “psychometric test” despite acing their very tricky aptitude test

Yes, it is possible to score very high in inductive and numerical reasoning but still be disqualified as a result of poor results in a Job-Focused Assessment.

Cognitive tests evaluates and measures intelligence and problem-solving ability, while job-focused assessments evaluate or assess personality, behavior, integrity, and cultural fit.

Companies, organizations and firms including structured organizations like NLNG normally require both strong ability and strong behavioral alignment before advancing applicants to the next stage of the recruitment process.

I heard that too... but the thing is, it’s not really about seeing the questions beforehand, they repeated one practice question in those bubbles, but I failed it. The real thing is after seeing them(questions), were they actually able to solve them correctly? Back in secondary school and Uni, I noticed a pattern, people who always claimed to have seen the exam questions usually ended up failing more than those who actually used their heads. I just sha know that If it’s meant for you, it will come. No need to stress over who saw what.
I get what you mean, but imagine seeing 5 questions you've correctly solved previously, and they're repeated during your test. That saves you a lot of time that you could use on the remaining 5 questions. We can't ignore the kind of advantage that would be. Sure, not everyone might be able to make use of the advantage but it's still an advantage over others.

I envy people like you. I'm an overthinker and perfectionist, and I almost always take my time to do things well. This might be considered a kryptonite in a recruitment where time is of the essense, but I just hope that they don't compromise excellence and attention to detail while encouraging speed.
I hope so too.

That Job focused assessment reminded me of Shell's personality test in the first stage. I've taken that test 3 times and I've always felt sure of my answers but in the end I don't move beyond that stage.

It was the scariest part of the whole assessment to me.
Re: NLNG Recruitment 2025/2026 by Artsynatty: 1:24pm On Feb 25
And this is the part I took with a pinch of salt. Lol.

But, why though? Why can't they just wait till the interview stage to know if the person is indeed a fit?

you’re right…If you were observant during the job-focused questions, you’d see they were all centered on their core values. There was one question where I almost chose an option that would have compromised safety. The other options weren't necessarily bad, but they would have pushed safety to the side. In my opinion, those job-focused sections carry their own mark, just like the numerical and the other sessions. I stand to be corrected sha

Another way to reduce the numbers for the interviews, probably?

If there even is an interview stage this time. I may be wrong, but I don't think they had one during the 2022 recruitment.

I agree. Each of the tests will definitely be scored.

I mean, universities award degrees based on "character and learning".

Character comes first. I'm worried.

If you didn't pick safety over any other thing everytime it came up, be worried as if you didn't complete your numerical reasoning.

There was a time I picked safety as second best because I was receiving prompts of answering slowly and taking time to read. I pressed my accelerator and started messing things up.
Re: NLNG Recruitment 2025/2026 by Artsynatty: 2:10pm On Feb 25
I can't remember most of the questions, but I don't recall getting so much with regards to safety. I was getting drilled on interpersonal skills and team spirit type questions.

Say, are you an engineering graduate? 🤔

Questions were like:

Choose which best describes you:

1. I meet most of my deadlines and deliver my projects on time.

2. I respect my supervisors and follow instructions.

3. I ensure the safety of the environment where I work.

😆

Just Choose safety and move on.

The problem is that they repeat the questions in different forms over 3 times and keep prompting you to answer them faster and not think before you answer them.

Those few you got about safety are important. Over 100 questions, most are definitely decoys.

The JFA is the same for everyone. Safety may not be explicitly stated everytime, it could come as 'following rules and regulations', 'following manuals' etc.

there is this one specific question in the job-focused section. It asked which of these best describes me? I do not review others' private information…I accept instructions from my managers and the last option was all about supporting how my organization can build stronger ties with my communities. I was just like if you're looking to work with a company like NLNG, you literally need all three! You can’t leak private info, you must follow your manager, and you have to maintain that community relationship. That was the moment I realized those guys really came prepared to stretch our thinking

Same. Maybe it's safe to say safety questions were mostly peculiar to Engineering. I chose business related prior the commencement, and i was getting things like team, would like to know about other culture (guessing they are measuring inclusivity), continuous improvement, speaking clearly for people to understand, if i would partake in workplace politics or so, would listen to my manager instruction, would work in isolation and so on..... omo ......... It's God's hands. The numerical especially, scares the hell out of me

This pretty much sums it up. My questions were 100% in this line. Nothing much about safety, but you see that culture, teamwork and this particular one I saw a lot, "People can clearly understand what I write"? They just kept spawning them.

I don't know if it was just me but for the JFA the inclusivity?inclusion?/culture options were always "When you fly to a new country do you bother to learn about their culture" or something like that and i usually pick it as the third coz safety, hierarchy and teamwork i feel precedes that, Sometimes even the last choice if all the aforementioned get listed.

Exactly! That’s just my kind of person…I’m thorough. I was being so careful during the job-focused assessment that the system actually sent me a pop-up notification. That “We noticed that you are slow, if you can’t see the question clearly contact your recruiter.” Did anyone here got that notification as well?

No, funny how I can't remember. I think I was able to solve 7-8, then breeze through the rest since we had to technically touch every question.

If this is the framework that would be used to grade the JFA, then I'm a bit relieved. I think I centered majority of my selections around Collaboration, Adaptation, Analysis, Execution and Performance.

Reasons I avoid leaked questions, they usually mess up with it rhythm.

Glad to be back here. can't remember the username or email I used years back
