Let me share my thought on this. You see those fx in dollars, pounds, Euros in those banks that they think are available for domestic consumptions, they will be diverted and spent offshore because the value would not mean much to the local currency when exchanged. So, it is a give and take thing. Economic managementcan be complex Richtaiwo: |

BrickandLace:When they say a currency is depreciating, it has to be consistently depreciating for a certain period not a day or two days and then say it is depreciating. Is the Canadian dollar depreciating too?. |

BrickandLace:Alhaja/ji, learn to take correction. Dollar, Sterling, Euro, the Almighty Naira is spanking 'em all. You've got to allow our economic wizards at the CBN their movement in the sun even if you don't like them anymore than I do. ![]() The naira on Wednesday regained strength in the parallel market after the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) cut its benchmark interest rate, known as the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR), by 50 basis points.Source: https://businessday.ng/news/article/naira-gains-in-black-market-after-cbn-cuts-interest-rate/ Go easy on the afro-pessimism.

Misterone:But when naira suddenly depreciated from like #400 to #1500 against dollar during Tinubu's ascension to power, there is no implications for that abi? Now for the naira to appreciate reach 1000# there is a full-page fullscap paper story abi. Abeg wake me up when Naira to dollar is back to #400 to $1. Thanks. |

Richtaiwo:Government income . Nigerias 2026 budget is based on 1,400/usd and i think 1.9 million barrels . Gradual and steady appreciation also suggest a reliable currency, a volatile appreciation provides room for seeing currency as hedging / speculation tool. |
| Re: Central Bank Stopped Naira From Appreciating To ₦1000/$ – Shetttima by Breaker001: 8:05pm On Feb 25 |
Richtaiwo:It does make sense. Imagine an importer who buys $1m dollar from CBN at N1300 per dollar. By the time he returns from China in a weeks time, he comes back to meet the dollar at N1000, he is already running at a loss of N300 to a dollar. Though the local producers will be the better for it, but not at the expense of the importer who depends on CBN to import his goods. So there has to be stability. |

What is the sense in saying you stopped the Naira from gaining strength, is that supposed to mean you are happy the Naira should continue to be weakened? To whose advantage? Did you not promised t strengthen the Naira? Where is the sense in all this nonsense? How the helll will a weakened Naira be good for the economy? Don't you guys reason at all? BTW, No Central Bank in the world can influence the strength or weakness of a currency, If they can WHY CAN'T DO USE THAT SAME MAGIC WAND TO TURN THE NAIRA TO A DOLLAR. Richtaiwo:CBN stepped in because government will start losing money too. Government returns will become low. Once naira appreciate towards N1000, government will start losing money from external revenue. It is a two way thing. |

I see different comment supporting selfush moves, stated by the vp. When the dollars was rising from 300+ why didn't the cbn do something to stabilise it, now it's coming down, they want to stabilise it to remain high, and some gullible people are quoting economic terms to support it. Africa, we are still far from being liberated |

DeLaRue:People do not understand that a strong currency is a curse to the country that owns that currency. No one wants to buy from such country - that is the problem facing the United States at the moment. China devalues her currency because she wants to stimulate export. |

This man can lie! Where was market stability when naira nosedived in 2023/2024 from N800 to N1600? Now that naira want to appreciate according to APC. The CBN has to stop it. Which country does that? What a ruse! APC has constitute themselves into a lie entity... |
