Zimbabwe has withdrawn from negotiations with the US on a new health aid agreement. It would have provided $367 million over five years, according to the US embassy in Zimbabwe.


The decision reportedly followed directives from President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who argued the proposed deal threatened the country’s sovereignty and independence. Zimbabwe objected to provisions granting the US long‑term access to national health data, arguing it posed risks to sensitive population‑level information and amounted to undue external intrusion.

Zimbabwe’s decision now places long‑standing US‑funded HIV/AIDS treatment support at risk. The halted deal comes as the US signs similar health pacts across Africa under its America First strategy, with countries such as Rwanda, Uganda, Lesotho, and Eswatini onboard.

The massive push for DNA test in the media is part of the agenda. If you like give away your DNA information. Marry a woman you trust or better, wait till you find a virgin. A country not giving her citizen free health service, want to give you one. If they dont, Then their health system particularly on HIV/AIDS intervention might be halted and it will lead to increase/spread of HIV/Aids.

It is too early to start praising Zimbabwe. Let us watch and see. I only hope that in years to come, we will not start blaming the US for a health crisis in Zimbabwe. Let us remember that it was their choice. And I agree with you, Africa doesn't need aid, but let's be honest, we can't demand equal partnership if we are not equal. In what world is a 30 trillion economy equal to a 52.3 billion economy? Any country using esim is using U.S tech.

Any country using esim is using us tech.

No, the US will never do that because you can't pay them enough, but for a poor African country, treating HIV may be far more important than maintaining privacy. Health could easily be a bigger national risk than privacy, and if they can't afford health, trading their privacy for it may be a difficult but wise choice.
