Congratulations man!!! At least a breathe of fresh air. When most youth your age are in one yahoo school , or engaging in one art or criminality or trying to find purpose for their lives, the is a sparkling star in the sky saying there is still hope. More wins and greater heights |

This was over 10 years ago, is he still in Nigeria? A serious private university should have approached him and offered him millions to tenure with them. Build their department of Mathematics, pump out top-notch students and start placing in international spots (through the right networking). Then use that as a selling point to prospective parents and students: "our school hires the best and produces the best". |

Celebrating ppl who only know how to cram as intelligent is a slap to the intelligent ones, In Nigeria most first class graduates only know how to cram, they can't solve new problems or invent solutions, only to cram lesson materials and answer exam questions, After now you won't hear anything about him again, cos nothing to cram |

Onegai:Yes, Unilag: https://www.linkedin.com/in/hallowed-olu-173bb164?utm_source=share_via&utm_content=profile&utm_medium=member_android A one-time postdoc at Harvard and a associate professor at the African Mathematical institute, one of the best, if not the best in the continent. Good suggestion regarding the private university option, but apparently as we've seen, none is serious. Maybe Seun's father should start a university as he and his team have been brilliant with Ambassadors College. |

Gerrard59:Just heard of another brilliant Nigerian Mathematician: Professor Monsur Akangbe Kenku, he's late now. Nigerians of nowadays don't realize how many Ivy League-educated Nigerians came back to serve their Motherland and were dealt with. We had scientists and economists leaving jobs at NASA and London Exchange eagerly for Nigeria and they all regretted it. And now look at the current generation... Private Universities started so well but majority of them don't seem to have a focus other than make profits and graduate kids without strike. CU used to poach the best lecturers from public universities and bring out the most polished grads but I'm no longer sure. Where did we as a country get it so wrong? |

Onegai:A Nairalander by moniker - Mr IbeOkehie - has written quite a lot about it and has asked the same question. He further says the current japa generation wouldn't return as he knows many illustrious Nigerians in the US who have vowed never to return. In fact, Mr IbeOkehie says it's older Nigerians in Nigeria (mostly upper middle class) who later move to the West than younger ones returning. As for the last question, IBB and Gowon have a lot to answer. I'm at loss what the latter used the excess money for. If CU cannot attract the best consistently, then no other private university can. I think another Nairalander commented how Atiku's university is more of a liability than an asset. The truth is: research especially basic science needs consistent funding. Each time I read the exploits of Chinese universities and their research, I keep seeing the hands of consistent gov't funding. This is aside the natural brilliance in STEM subjects by the Chinese. Fields like mathematics and physics have real world benefits, but they take time to come to reality. Research also requires 24/7/365 electricity. las las, the best universities for both academic and research on the continent are in South Africa. |

Onegai:You are right. Covenant University used to approach the best lecturers from different university and offered them attractive salary package with benefits...I doubt it they still keep up to the pace now. There are several other private universities springing up now with competitive strategies. |
