INEC Colluding To Disenfranchise Christian Voters With Jan 16th Election Date? by jmoore(op): 7:08am On Feb 27
Here are the presidential elections dates since1999

1. 27th February 1999

2. 19th April 2003.

3. 21st April 2007

4. 16th April 2011

5. 28th March 2015

6. 23rd February 2019

7. 25th February 2023.

So why has INEC fixed the presidential election to be held on January 16th 2027? A date when many Christians are yet to return to their base because of Christmas and new year celebrations?

Isn't this a calculated attempt to disenfranchise Christian voters?

I am a Christian and I don't feel the same way. In fact, I prefer the proposed Jan. 16 date. Anyone that knows he will be away around that time can vote in the village/town.

Nigerians are difficult to satisfy.

This is why Muslim Muslim ticket is having it's way and Christians remain relaxed.
Should your personal preference be more important than general preference?

The question is that how is the general preference determined?

The Muslims were uncomfortable with the previous date because it falls within Ramadan. Are the Christians fasting in January? If you travel home for Christmas, you should be back to your base by Jan. 16. Alternatively, you could transfer your voter's card to your village and vote there. Thankfully, we don't operate an electoral college like America. So, a vote in Oyo counts the same as one in Sokoto or Anambra.

Wait! There's a biblical injunction that says christians should never travel before the middle of January, as it is a sin? Or are you living in an alternate universe where people still trek long distances to get to their destination like in ancient times, so youd need 15 days for your trip (from the SE, I guess)? Oh! I just saw that you're one of those that always complain, whatever the government does. Lolz. You have the option of organizing your village meeting and deciding on the time it will convenient for you for the election to hold. I'm sure other Nigerians will abide by your resolution.

If you can't f!ght for your interest and the interest of like-minded people.......why not stay-off the topic simple as that. Or you are not a Christian

Is this one normal?

Jan 16 to you is still part of which Christian holiday?

Christmas ends after December 26.

So to you a whole 21 days is too short for you to return to work?

When has Christmas been celebrated for more than 3 weeks after the holiday?

Just tell us that the date is too close to the infamous sate of Jan 15.

Maybe they want to use the "Jan 15 Nzeogwu coup" worn out narratives to emotionally blackmail the north..
Our "Sophisticated" blodas have milked the saggy titties of that "igbo coup" story for way too long that they have run out of ideas as to what other tactics to use in winning general elections in Nigeria..

The "igbo coup" tales from the highly kwurupt Lagos ibadan expressway mercenary press houses has been effective over the years in keeping the unholy "South West-North alliance " going.. But recently things have started falling apart.
The Northerners are breaking loose. They have grown tired of listening to all those Lagos NADECO fables..

But in the minds of Lagos brancj of the APC, if you fix the elections a day to the remembrance day of the day "igbos tried to kee the whole Nigeria", it may help encourage the North to valeu their "alliance" with the South West and so do the "needful"....

Looks like it is the old template all over again..

Stop hiding behind Christianity to attack the INEC. The INEC chairman is a Christian and I'm sure he wouldn't fix a date that will affect his fellow Christian.

Mention your region, and stop hiding behind religion.

As much some of Us dont support this APC govt one bit ..

i think your submission holds no water ... It is baselezz and unworth of debate

We all know the the igbos are the one that mostly travel back to the village for xmas celebration, I wil use Alaba close re-open as basis to null your opinion

Alaba market re-opened for 2026 before jan 12th ... meaning they expect all mindful trader to be back for business, the celebration is officially over

Anyone who is " SERIOUS" about the presidential election should be back to their designated place to carry out such obligation before jan 16th ... Lets be sincere with ourselves. No issues

When someone was explaining about the other election that will fall during fasting next year, I told the person that the explanation is unnecessary. There is no time that would be fixed for the election that the opposition won't find fault with.

I already said it here before your post that the OP like you are only concerned about the new date being too close to January 15th.

There's no date set for the execution of a condemned inmate that will be appropriate to him.

This is what you are seeing with OP's latest lamentations.

The upcoming election date is a date they dread more than death because it is the day set for their defeat.

On one thread yesterday, I said the opposition already have the date for their inevitable defeat as the election would be formality

Xmas is dec 25th and cross over night + new year celebration falls 31st/1st with an extended holiday of the 1st week

After all this, how does jan 16th affect us as xtain .. Is it on sunday or mfm power must change hand or redeem convention

Any serious minded individual will not spend one whole month of a starting business year to relax undecided

Exactly, I don't know how someone will be using fasting as an excuse for less than 10 exercise. Fasting doesn't stopped you from performing your civic responsibility. Go to your polling center, vote and go back home.
