ADC Rejects Revised INEC Election Timetable by treesun(op): 5:58pm On Feb 27
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected the revised 2026–2027 electoral timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), alleging that it contains “boobytraps” designed to exclude opposition parties and pave the way for President Bola Tinubu’s unopposed return in the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC faulted new compliance requirements introduced under Sections 77 and 82 of the Electoral Act 2026, saying they impose unfair burdens on opposition parties while conferring undue advantage on the ruling party.

According to the ADC, INEC’s timetable mandates political parties to submit comprehensive digital membership registers by April 2, 2026, ahead of party primaries scheduled to hold between April 23 and May 30, 2026.

The party said the timeline creates an “almost impossible hurdle” that could prevent opposition parties from fielding candidates.

The ADC noted that Section 77(7) of the Electoral Act 2026 provides that any party that fails to submit its membership register within the stipulated period “shall not be eligible to field a candidate,” a provision it described as exclusionary rather than administrative.

It further argued that the law prescribes extensive data requirements for the digital register, including members’ personal details, National Identification Number (NIN) and photographs, and prohibits the use of any pre-existing register that does not meet these specifications. Failure to comply, the party said, would result in disqualification.

The opposition party alleged that the ruling party had begun compiling the required digital register as far back as February 2025, giving it a significant head start.

The ADC claimed this amounted to insider advantage and a misuse of incumbency, as other parties are now expected to complete the same process within a matter of weeks.

“Democratic competition is based on a level-playing field,” the statement said, adding that a system that gives one party a year-long advantage over others is “rigged and corrupt.”

The ADC said it has joined other opposition parties in rejecting what it described as a “corrupted” Electoral Act 2026 and, by extension, the revised INEC timetable derived from it.

The party warned that it would not take any step that could legitimize what it called a fraudulent electoral framework, noting that it is reviewing its options and would announce its next steps in the coming days.

The party also called on civil society groups, democratic stakeholders and Nigerians across party lines to scrutinize the timetable and demand fairness, warning that democracy cannot survive if electoral rules are designed to produce predetermined outcomes.

ADC is showing us everyday that they're not serious as the foremost opposition in the country..

Did any of those who have said something on this thread read the reason behind their rejection?

I opened the thread to read why they'd reject the time table cause I thought they were been mischievous or unserious, but if we are been honest their reasons for the rejection made sense.

They either allow em use d (hardcopy, paper & pen)party register or they shift the time table for d party primaries etc.
It's unfair to use insider information to put em in disarray if u r truly popular.

#I do not support d opposition blindly neither do I criticize d ruling party blindly too.

Re: ADC Rejects Revised INEC Election Timetable by aylipple: 6:51pm On Feb 27
Lol. Show me an unserious, ill-prepared, ignorant and lazy opposition and I'll show you the ADC - always jumping from one complaint to the other.

Instead of focusing on real issues - knowing the type of political party and president in power today - they were busy chasing after a phantom AMAC LG elections in the FCT. Now, that the dust has settled and eyes are beginning to clear, they now realize that they've fallen into the ruling party's trap and to make matters worse, they don't have the numbers in the National Assembly to force a change to the amended electoral act that was recently signed into law by the president.

I wish them all the best oo.

Yes we did. What have they been doing all this while? They still have a month now to rush and prepare their papers to INEC. Perhaps they don't want the election.
See what Bala said today;
"When you look at our performance in the FCT area council election, at least our own in the PDP is still better than those calling themselves coalition.”

I'm disappointed by your assertion that ADC is the foremost opposition party in Nigeria.
Based on the Anambra Governorship election last year and the just concluded local elections last week where ADC performed worse than PDP, it's obvious that the party belongs to chestbeaters and daydreamers.
It's sure that they are going into next year's election unprepared and they will come third again yet claiming to be the foremost opposition.
They are the foremost big mouth while PDP is the undisputed opposition based on performance.
Re: ADC Rejects Revised INEC Election Timetable by mattb1(m): 7:06pm On Feb 27
Atiku rejected the first time table.
What I want to understand is that, was that rejection personal or it was just for religious sake?
Re: ADC Rejects Revised INEC Election Timetable by muykem: 7:07pm On Feb 27
They should allow ADC to choose the date.

What Gov. Bala said has nothing to do with why they rejected the date... My question to u now is, did APC use 1 month to do their e-registration? If no since when did they start? And was "party membership e- registration" part of our electoral laws in the past?(I asked ds question cause u wl say APC started preparing early - for what? For something that wasn't existing in our electoral laws then but was seen as an advantage they can use against opposition last minute)?

What Pres. Tinubu n d ruling party is doing is unfair, if PDP had done this to em in 2013/2014 they won't smell power today - People are taking notes n we must always be fair in our dealings cause power is transient.

They should just choose date for us nah…unserious opposition that doesn’t have party agents in 80% of polling units .yeye opposition

This group of iron condemn politicians and bellyaching. What do they want this time? Complaining is all they do. If they don't wish to contest in 2027, they should raise the white flag and save us the N1 trillion INEC budget. Using Obi's reasoning, that money will build 100 hospitals and 200 schools

He played the religious card. He said it clashed with next year Ramadan.
Now the date has been brought forward, what exactly do they want now?
Definitely it can't be shifted backward, because the transition date is unchangeable.

What has your darling party doing all this while? If they are not ready they should get out and let the parties that are ready go ahead. They claimed election timetable coincided with Ramadan fasting,it was brought forward. Now they are complaining.
Re: ADC Rejects Revised INEC Election Timetable by yarimo(m): 7:25pm On Feb 27
INEC came with a time table earlier to conduct election in February the same ADC raise alarm that it will clash with Ramadan fasting, now Inec adjusted it before Ramadan the same ADC are saying INEC want to exclude them from participateing in the election how? It's just clear ADC are not ready for any 2027 presidential election just noise making
