They dont take sides. Those affected are also Islamic nations. Iran and Saudi don't agree on several religious stance. In Iran, the follow ahmadiyya tenets which Saudi doesn't like. Ahmadiyya denomination was introduced by ahmad, an Iranian while Saudi believes in the sunni denomination, if you call it so.

Till now, several Iranians don't go to Saudi for hajj. They don't believe it's holly enough for that purpose,until a few years back.
