I’ve tried the third one, and I actually kind of like it! It seems to only come around during the rainy season; I bought some in Imo State. But those first and second ones? No matter how much anyone tries to convince me, they are never crossing my teeth—especially the first one!

The first ones are the most popular among them, I believe.
Funnily, I've never tasted any among them, but I know some people enjoy them.

I saw a lot of children eating them, but what really disgusted me was that they were eating them raw. I absolutely hate anything that crawls.

I belong to the class of Eruru/Ururu. That's the first one. I tasted shinge/Ofurukpe/Akumbe but I don't really enjoy it.
That first one is a must for all to taste.

No. 1 is African palm weevil larvae. I've eaten it about 30 or so years ago when I went for a week holiday in the village to stay with my late grandma when she was alive.

I wish I can see it again to eat. I still remember it tasted so good.

No 2 (caterpillars) don't look like something I can put in my mouth since I didn't grow up seeing people eat that.

I used to eat no 3 (processed winged termites) when I was a kid. But it no longer interest me since I became an adult. Last time eating that is definitely more than 20 years ago. Or much more

I use to eat termites. But never bought the ones sold in pet-bottles. I like frying dem myself.

OP you didn't include cricket! That was my number-1 insect delicacy.

Wow! cheesy
I could never bring myself to try them when I had the chance.

I still see being sold on the road when traveling, but I doubt those are hygienic for the system.

The natural habitats of those insects are not such that should give you concern. The only concern should be how they were handled and processed.

Palm weevil are pest of almost every kind of palm. Adults lay eggs on the palm and when they hatch they feed on the palm and destroy it. The caterpillars typically live on and eat leaves destroying crops and trees. The termites live in the ground and typically eat dead wood and sometimes live ones too.

They are not known to be disease carriers. But the people processing can make them unsafe though.

I think I've tasted cricket before as a kid. But I remember once eating locust during my University days.

I remembered when I was working in the fct 08/10.....my boss Mr,ochai,a benue man, jolly good fellow.....I hung out with him and we went to one man village in nyanyan......we got there and their was all manner of things there from snakes to frogs to rodent looking stuff that looked more like rats to me......my pallete was immediately unalived,I couldn't imagine touching any of those things... I had to have my pounded yam and egusi with no form of protein whatsoever even after they tried to convince me they had regular beef,I wasn't having it at all..... still beats me hollow how sone people consider snake meat or dog meat a delicacy.....as in how nah!!

I ate this once.

The host insisted. It looks exactly the way it was garnished in this picture.

It was crunchy, almost tasteless (perhaps being my first time)

Will I eat again? I think so.

Why? Protein from another source than the regular Animal Protein.

I am talking about the first pix.

Provided they taste good and I am not allergic to them....I can try them all....but that first one might be reluctantly for the first time. cheesy .
