‘no Ship Allowed’: Iran Blocks Strait Of Hormuz by seunmsg(op): 6:08pm On Feb 28
An official with the European Union’s naval mission Operation Aspides said on Saturday that vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz have been receiving radio messages stating that “no ship is allowed to pass the Strait of Hormuz”.

The official, who spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity, said the warnings were transmitted over VHF radio and were attributed to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards.

However, Iran has not formally confirmed issuing any such order.

US has also urges commercial ships to avoid Gulf after US, Israel attack Iran, according to AFP.

The Strait of Hormuz is regarded as the world’s most critical oil export corridor. It links major Gulf producers, including Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq and the United Arab Emirates, to the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea, serving as a key transit point for global energy supplies.

Estimates say the route accounts for around 20% of global energy supplies.

Tehran has for years threatened to block the narrow waterway in retaliation for attacks on the Islamic Republic. The reported radio transmissions come amid heightened regional tensions, raising concerns about the security of commercial shipping and global oil flows.

It follows the US-Israel joint strikes on Iran, in retaliation Tehran has targeted Israel and US facilities in the Middle East and other American allies, including Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Jordan.

There was no immediate confirmation from Iranian authorities regarding any closure or enforcement action in the strait.

Nigeria should be very worried. This is no longer looking good. Over 20million barrels of crude oil passes through that strait daily. Oil prices have soared in response. If this continues, crude oil will go out of reach and global economy will collapse. The price of PMS will go over N1000 very soon in Nigeria.

This is a very good news and brilliant decision by the Iran. The alternarive route created for days like this in Bahrain have been attacked by Iran today too.

Iran are doing exactly what they promised, set the whole region on fire.

Re: ‘no Ship Allowed’: Iran Blocks Strait Of Hormuz by ElevationD:
Expectedly. Ships to divert. Even though costlier in terms of distance and fuel, there are very safe alternatives to mitigate the disruptions:

Suez Canal - Connecting the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea, allowing ships to bypass Africa.

Malacca Strait - Between Malaysia and Indonesia, connecting the Indian Ocean to the South China Sea.

Bab-el-Mandeb Strait - Between Yemen and Djibouti, linking the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden. Except the Houthis block it in solidarity when Iran, vessels can ply the route.

Panama Canal - Connecting the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean, allowing ships to bypass South America.

Northern Sea Route - This is a shipping route along Russia's Arctic coast, offering a shorter alternative to the Suez Canal for some routes.

Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor) - A multimodal transport system connecting China to Europe via Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey.

Cape Route (Around Africa) - User when the Houthis disturbed last year. It is a longer route around South Africa, often used when other routes are inaccessible.

In all, Iran will suffer much more economically. The economy is in coma and with such huge cost of prosecuting such a war against the Americans and Israelis at the same time, it will be devastating, especially more to the citizens, who recently revolted because of the bad state of the Iranian economy.

Be ready for another round of world wide economic collapse
Re: ‘no Ship Allowed’: Iran Blocks Strait Of Hormuz by wellmax(m): 7:05pm On Feb 28
Here’s what it really means in practical terms.

1) Oil prices would likely jump very fast
About 20% of the world’s oil supply moves through that strait. When shipments stop or slow, markets panic because supply suddenly looks smaller.
Analysts have warned prices could surge well above $100 per barrel, possibly much higher if the disruption lasts.
What that means for people:
Petrol and diesel prices rise.
Air travel and shipping become more expensive.
Many goods cost more because transport costs increase.

2) Global inflation would rise
Energy is tied to almost everything in the economy. When oil and gas spike:
Food prices rise (transport + farming costs).
Manufacturing costs increase.
Electricity and heating bills climb.
Economists say disruption there would fuel inflation and strain supply chains worldwide.

3) Countries that depend on Middle East energy get hit hardest
Asia and parts of Europe rely heavily on oil and gas passing through that route. China, Japan, India, and many EU countries could see:
Higher import bills
Slower economic growth
Potential shortages if the blockade lasts.
Natural gas is also at risk because large volumes of LNG from Qatar pass through the same waterway.

4) Financial markets could become very volatile
When something like this happens:
Stock markets often drop at first.
Energy companies may rise because oil prices surge.
Investors move money into “safe” assets like gold or government bonds.
If the closure lasts weeks or months, economists warn it could slow global growth or even push some economies toward recession.

5) It could escalate into a larger conflict
A full blockade is also a military and geopolitical issue. Major powers depend on that shipping lane, so pressure or military action to reopen it would be likely.

The grand plan for this war is actually not about Iran. The real tension is China's unification of Taiwan. This war and the capturing of Venezuela are strategic precursory war/planning to the ultimate battle.

You must be dreaming, Russia have no idealogical affinity with Iran, China does not, they only use Iran when suitable, both nations don't like extremists Islam, they don't tolerate it in their nation. Those nations demolished mosques. They only have economic interests with Iran not defence pact.

If global economy did not collapse during the Gulf war why should it collapse now?

Why do you think they allow the Ukraine war to fester this long? It's strategic planning to weaken fire/fighting/support powers of allies. Both China and Russia need oil to prosecute their wars. That's why both Venezuela and Iran need to be isolated first.

This is going to be a long fight. Let's pray it doesn't lead to another world war.

I remember back then in the early 90s during the Gulf War, Nigeria generated a significant increase in income due to a surge in global oil prices. I may not be an expert in economics matters, but I have been wondering if there is a way Nigeria can take advantage of this new war in the Middle East to boost our income/economy.

Why?

Does Nigeria crude oil have to pass through that strait to get to dangote's refinery?
