A very scary moment was caught on camera when a child narrowly escaped being pulled by a lioness at a zoo in China.

In the viral video, the young girl stood too close to the enclosure fence when the lioness suddenly grabbed her pants and tried to pull her in. The situation quickly turned tense as the animal held onto her leg, but thankfully, a man believed to be her guardian reacted fast and pulled her to safety.

The incident happened at Zhongshan Park in Shantou City, Guangdong Province, and it has sparked serious reactions online. Many people are calling it a warning for parents to always keep children at a safe distance from wild animals, even when barriers are present.

Some viewers blamed the parents for allowing the child get too close, while others said the zoo should improve safety measures to prevent such terrifying close calls.

Thankfully, the child was not injured, but the moment has left many people shocked and reminded everyone how dangerous wild animals can be.

This design is even wrong. Why is the platform so close to the lions. Close enough they can reach out of the cage with their limbs.

Even in the U.I zoo, there is a clear border between where the lions can reach and where the people stand.

People tend not to understand that these cats have claws which makes them able to grab just like the human hand.

They can actually grab and hold and not just swipe or slap.

It's China! People do not attend to matters that do not concern them. I was reading somewhere that you can fall down dying on the streets and nobody will send you. The best they'll do is to call the police.

Unbelievable how they just stood there watching as if it was the most normal thing in the world to see a lion trying to drag a child into its enclosure.

Remove your shoe and hit the animal's paws. Find something, anything around you and strike the animal. Distract it anyway you can (while keeping yourself safe of course) - but those two just stood there like statues.

That would have been the end. The child would have lost that limb.
