IRN citing four informed sources, reported that despite U.S. intelligence assessments indicating no immediate threat from the Islamic Republic, Saudi Arabia and Israel have, in recent weeks, through extensive lobbying, pushed Donald Trump towards attacking Iran.


According to the newspaper, Mohammed bin Salman, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, has made several private phone calls to Trump over the past month and, while publicly supporting a diplomatic solution, has privately called for U.S. military action.

At the same time, Benjamin Netanyahu has continued his long-standing and public campaign to encourage Washington to attack the Islamic Republic.


The Washington Post also wrote that bin Salman warned U.S. officials that if Washington refrained from military action, Iran would become stronger and more dangerous given the unprecedented concentration of U.S. forces in the region.


According to informed sources, the complex stance of the Saudi crown prince stems from his efforts to avoid possible retaliation from Tehran against Saudi oil infrastructure while simultaneously viewing Iran as Riyadh's regional rival.
