The account should be current account. And you tranfered up 5million naira from it to other bank accounts that is why they charged you like that.

Try getting an Eco savings account and then always transfer ur money to the saving accnt b4 sending to other banks and thank me later.

When I opened the account, I just deposited 1000 naira into it, the next day they debited it and called it for ATM card issuance fee, even when I didn't apply for atm. Till today, I no see card. Thieves

Why are you hiding the balance, you probably have millions 🤭, not unusual, the higher the cost the higher the maintenance...

Well I will be going to the bank on Monday to ask if they have started doing yahoo with customers money because you are suppose to inform your customers if there are any policy changes.

Thought you said it's salary account..if it's actually salary account, I doubt you can do anything about it with the bank except you tell your employer to move your salary payment to another bank and close the Ecobank but I guess, no employer would consider doing that. I think you should write to the bank, pick a paper and write a protest letter of over deducation of maintenance fee from your salary account.... Tell them you are disappointed and should quickly rectify it. Put your email under your name and also make a copy for the bank to endorse after collecting the original. Collect the manager's telephone number or the senior CRO.....then you are done....just wait for the correction or the reason for deduction..... good luck.......

there was one month gtb charged me over 6k for sms....
though i did mad transfers that particular month...

UBA bank deducted 5879.28 naira as maintenance fee.

They also deducted 440.95 naira as VAT on account.

Then they finally deducted 50 naira, (8 times) as FGN stamp duty making a total of 400 naira.

All same day, same time

Grand total: about 6,700 naira +-.

Thank you for breaking it down, banks will not just abitrarily charge customers. Once salary drop, move am go your savings account for spending to avoid AMF charges. However, @OP I recommend you try Sterling Bank's Current Account, there are no charges and depending on your salary you can get loans of over N5m interest free provided you pay back within a 30-days period.

AMF is charged base on debit turnover on your account for a period, and the fee is usually #1 per mille if no concession is granted, i.e N1 is deducted for every debit of N1000 to your account. Using your bank statement, sum the total of debits to your account for the period they wrote in the debit alert narration and divide by 1000, if your answer aligns wt d 5,300 debit, you have no case.

E.g. debit turnover from 1/02/2026 - 28/02/2026 = 5,300,000.
5,300,000/1000
AMF for d period under review = 5,300.

Its not just EcO bank….All these low tier banks are struggling with deposit mobilisation, market share and often have poor IT infrastructure, its their usual MO to rob customer with funny debits to manage their liquidity obligations…. Its makes zero sense to bank with them…

In 2026.. one yeye bank will be telling me i should keep minimum balance, maintenance fee, transfer fee, … tueh!!

Gtbank has consistently deducted about N3k monthly from my account. The funny thing is thing is that the deductions come with no explanation.

They will write: N60 deducted for SMS.
Then I will see about 3k or more. This has been on for more than a year now.
