I was at Ibadan zoo several years ago after the unfortunate incident of the 'prophet' who climbed into the lion's enclosure and lost his life after he was mauled by one of the male lions. I was there a day or two after it happened and the zoo keepers were at the enclosure, trying to do a post event assessment.

One of the keepers said that if it were one of the lionesses that had attacked the man, his body wouldn't have been recovered. Apparently, its much, much harder to get lionesses to release a victim/prey once they attack. Even if shots are fired into the air or loud noises are made to distract them, the lionesses (unlike the males) tend not to let go of the victim/prey.

That child was very lucky.

How could the zoo management allow visitors this close to the lion's cage.

See those two stupid adults, watching helplessly while a kid fight fir her life. Cowards. A foot kick or stamp on the lions outreached arm would have saved the day.

Another evidence to prove why kids need a man and father figure around them while growing. A man protects and defends.
Notice how the man took the initiative immediately to save the girl and how nonchalant the other two women were like as if nothing was happening. Even to shout for help or kick those damn lions, they didn't even flinch that someone is in danger.

Before I opened the thread, I knew it was going to be a girl or a woman. Always doing stupid things and expecting men to come clean up the mess.

The cage has divisions, the lions are moved to one side and that side is closed with a sliding burglary. The place is cleaned and food dropped for them.

The workers leave and open the barricade, the lions rush there to eat and that side is closed also and cleaned.

With the way that lioness was maneuvering it way around that barricade en, it doesn't looks like the first time.
It must have had a lot of practice.

She should thank her star that claws didn't make it to her skin, it would be like knife sliding through

I didn't take this serious until I watch the video. That photo is a little deceptive because those two adults are not just standing but were also terrified. Kudos to that keeper who strived hard to rescue this girl. That lion really mean business.

People tend not to understand that these cats have claws which makes them able to grab just like the human hand.

They can actually grab and hold and not just swipe or slap.
