Footballer, Ihotu John Rebecca Kidnapped On Benin Expressway by Savageman247(op): 4:58pm On Mar 01
In a shocking development that has sent ripples through the Nigerian sports community, Ihotu John Rebecca, a player in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership, has reportedly been abducted along the Benin Expressway. The incident, which occurred while she was traveling, has prompted widespread calls for action from fans, activists, and authorities.

According to multiple reports circulating on social media and confirmed by various sources, Rebecca, who plays for Oyo State-based Pacesetter Queens FC, was kidnapped by unknown gunmen. Her abductors are demanding a ransom of ₦20 million for her safe release. The news broke early today, with photos of the athlete in her team kit being shared thousands of times online, urging the police and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to intervene.

The Benin Expressway, a key route connecting Lagos to southern Nigeria, has long been plagued by security issues, including kidnappings. Athletes, often relying on public transport due to low league pay, face heightened risks in such areas. As of now, neither Pacesetter Queens FC nor the NWFL has issued an official statement, and no confirmation has come from police in Edo State or federal authorities.

Family sources indicate the abduction happened during her journey, possibly en route to Makurdi. Social media users have expressed outrage, with some tagging high-profile figures like President Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian Police Force in pleas for help. One post highlighted the irony of recent claims about improved security in the country, amid ongoing challenges.

This incident underscores the persistent threat of kidnappings in Nigeria, particularly on major highways. ReportNaija will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more details emerge. Authorities are urged to act swiftly to ensure Rebecca's safe return.

I saw a video online where some Fulani boys in the bush allege that a DPO kept them in the Bush to kid-nap people and share ransom with him (DPO)….

We are our own problem but a lot of people are so quick to blame the President for everything that happened in their backyard….Especially when they have Governors in their backyard

This is the Nigeria of some people dreams, if you a Tinubu supporter, this is what you want for Nigeria

May she be found safe and returned on time

Will you stop this nonsense narrative, So Tinubu who is the commander in chief of the armed forces should sit idle while his armed forces play evil with their jobs?

Listen to yourself, did any governor employ the DPO, it was Tinubu that employed him, Tinubu is his commander chief, What good example is Tinubu showing to that DPO as his commander in chief?

What exactly did you people support Tinubu to become president for? To just bear the title without the responsibilities?

Like leader like follower, it is you people who put Tinubu there that are like the DPO, because the DPO is a reflection of the leader he follows and a reflection of the supporters supporting that leader

This post makes no sense. We shouldn't blame the President for not addressing insecurity?

These are the issues. Next election, same people lamenting about insecurity will compromise and refuse to elect the right leader. Góod governance is not about your stomach infrastructure.

Thats why he is the President. The bulk stops at his desk. Tinubu knew the security situation and he campaigned with it. To say he shouldn't be blamed for the sour state of things is to be disingenuous.

Whether we like it or not, there are (terrorists) in Nigeria who want peace. They are our brothers. We must seek for dialogue and understanding (with the terrorists).

What is this one saying.

Kidnapping is federal offence infact it is a terrorist act.

And all federal offences are treated by the federal units.

If you kidnap person for US who shows up? FBI, it has become a federal issue.

When Obasanjo was around and the Bayelsa militia started, who acted? Did Obasanjo wait for the state government?

I really wish this problem is what the government and army alone can solve..

We are divided as a nation and it is the main reason why it’s all going like this and why the government and the army will never be able to stop it alone without people’s cooperation.

Someone that was kidnapped once said his experience, “how people in an environment they were kept keep coming around to inform kidnappers about police patrols, we’ve seen cases where family members went to strike deal with thugs to kidnap their relatives so then can share money, we have seen silly cases where tribes are shielding their people that are causing unrest in regions. Peace and stability is what people should chase, not just money “it will only cause us more disasters”.

Bomb terrorists today, then you will start hearing threats of not voting. Obi supported Nnamdi Kanu, which means if he becomes a president, he will neglect all unrest caused by him. Atiku deleted his post that condemns the lynching of Deborah in the north, which means he will never attend to such occurrence if he gets to the seat and definitely, the cry for sharia law will be heard and fulfilled.

As far as politicians believes their main achievement is votes, then they will never do what is right!!!

Well, if you ask me. That doesn’t sound like a solution because even within the regions, there are more differences, I feel our education has been waste for not being able to live together “my view”, seeing our votes as the only power we have got us here. India, Russia, USA, and China are more diverse than we are here in Nigeria.

It’s just my view anyways, politicians we do all to please voters, which is one scary thing I felt when all candidates campaigned to removed subsidy.
