Ayatollah Khameni was assassinated via a missile fired into his family compound where he was staying with his daughter's family who was taking care of him. He rejected the idea of being taken to a bunker like you said saying that the whole Iranians cannot be taken into a bunker. That is why on the strike on his family compound, Israel/US immediately announced his death because both his people and his enemies knew he will be there. Till later in the evening when it was later confirmed that he was a casualty.

Look I love Israel but if there are no opponents to Israel like Iran, they will be controlling much of the Middle East. The Israel of today is very aggressive, if you leave them ehn..... Every Shia muslim organization in the world sees Iran as their HQ including the one in Nigeria by El Zakazy, so they usually get economic and sometimes military support from there. If there was a diplomatic resolution for peace and no Israeli interference into Lebanon affairs, then there will be no need for Hezbollah being militarized.
Don't assume what I said is correct, research it. If you read the history of Middle East politics and wars with an open mind, you will realize that neither the Israeli nor the Arabs are saints and perhaps render an apology for calling me pathetic out of ignorance.

In Islam, there is something called martyrdom. Information is no longer in books and newspapers, it is now on the internet but dumb people will still ignore and make assumptions without understanding the situation.
Also, his house was an assumed spot for strikes not a confirmed one. If their government knew 100% that he was going to be hit, they would have perhaps forcefully relocated him. The strikes were a surprise, the US/Israel started this unnecessary war.
