Boko Haram terrorists have killed a Forward Operations Base (FOB) commander, a Major, three soldiers and a hunter during a deadly attack on a military position in Mayanti, Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.

Security sources confirmed to Daily Trust that the personnel were killed during a coordinated night assault on the forward base on Sunday.

According to a source, the unit commander, identified as Major IU Mairiga, put up a fierce resistance against the insurgents but was eventually overpowered after some of his men reportedly retreated into the bush.

“The unit commander gave the terrorists a good fight, but he was overwhelmed after some soldiers fled. He died a brave soldier and neutralised many of them before he was overpowered,” the source said.

He added that upon arrival with reinforcements, troops recovered Rocket-Propelled Grenades (RPGs), anti-aircraft weapons and PKT machine guns, while several terrorist corpses were sighted at the scene.

“If not for the withdrawal of some of his men, he would have successfully repelled the attack,” he said.

The source disclosed that the slain Major had been deployed to the FOB less than four months ago following a special promotion.

Three civilians engaged in reconstruction work in the village were reportedly wounded in the crossfire, while military vehicles and equipment at the base were set ablaze by the attackers.

Meanwhile, troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) said they killed scores of Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists during failed attacks on Mayanti, Gajigana and Gajiram communities.

In a statement, the Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Lt. Col. Sani Uba, said troops repelled coordinated assaults launched between February 28 and March 1, 2026, recovering heavy weapons and ammunition.

He confirmed that one officer paid the supreme price, while several terrorists were neutralised and significant combat equipment was seized.

Uba added that troops have sustained offensive operations across Sector II, destroying terrorist logistics structures, arresting two ISWAP logistics suppliers and recovering arms, ammunition and medical supplies.

He stressed that all affected locations remain firmly under military control, noting that the scale of recoveries reflects the degrading combat capacity of insurgent elements.

This article clearly indicates that we pay little attention to training and discipline of our armed forces but focus largely on equipment and weapons.

A disciplined and well trained soldiers won't abandon others because you make the entire troop vulnerable. Let's cast our minds back to when ISIS first overran Iraq. The problems then weren't weapons because Iraqi army were awash with weapons after the departure of the US troops but the Iraqi army abandon their weapons and ran away.

They would eventually take back their country with a better trained, disciplined, united and a resilient group of men. I'm not saying we don't need to equip our soldiers but any soldier with little training, little discipline, disunity, poor tactics and poor motivation will run away, abandoning weapons and leaving a few of their brave colleagues to fight a vulnerable battle and probably fall in battle.

If you think I'm wrong, you would see that most of the weapons, tanks and IFVs Boko-Haram use in some of their propaganda videos were captured from Nigerian Troops running away in battle.

As all tiers of government (federal, state, and local) partner with international allies for military assistance, the focus should also shift toward enhanced training, operational discipline, and tactical development—not solely the procurement of weapons.

None of the countries in this ongoing war in the middle east have lost the amount of soldiers we have lost in the same number of days. Yet we are all chilled and relaxed like we aren't at war with demons. We aren't deploying heavy aerial bombardments on all terrorist locations like Iran is doing across the whole Middle East. Our President's son is busy doing online scuffle with social media influencers and sharing 100 million. Our generals are still sitting in their cozy offices sipping tea and treating files. Northern Muslims are busy protesting the death of someone that has never cared about their existence in another continent. Everyone is just unconcerned while we are loosing hundreds of our troops daily to these demons who are getting emboldened. Muslims are keeping quiet because they are their religious brethren. Big Christian Pastors are dumb because they don't want to offend those in power. The US we hoped would assist us are currently engaging Iran. The situation is entirely hopeless but I know God, our Lord Jesus Christ, is not asleep. This Islamic bloodsuckers who have soaked the entire world with blood will get their doomsday from God Himself. It is well with Nigeria. We will not be crushed.
