I Mistakenly Sent 69k To Someone Sad. by Smartguyboy(op): 4:19am On Mar 03
Three weeks ago, I mistakenly sent ₦69,000 to the wrong person. Immediately, I contacted my bank, and they gave me a form to fill out. After submitting the completed form, they told me it would take two weeks to process.

After the two weeks passed, I went back to the bank to follow up. That was when they told me I needed a court order to proceed.

Yesterday (Monday), I went to the court to obtain the court order. At the court, I was introduced to a lawyer, and the lawyer told me I would need to pay ₦30,000 to get the court order.

My brothers and sisters, how is this possible? I mistakenly sent ₦69,000, and now I’m being asked to pay ₦30,000 just to get a court order.

It’s even Gtbank to Gtbank.

I asked if they can provide me the person number so I can call the person directly and ask for my money. They said NO!!!

If paying the 30K wii guarantee your money back, I'd advice u to pay
Re: I Mistakenly Sent 69k To Someone Sad. by Besto(m): 6:36am On Mar 03
You are not supposed to pay more than 10% of the money involved
Re: I Mistakenly Sent 69k To Someone Sad. by Omihanifa: 6:43am On Mar 03
See you dey stress yourself. You can get the receipent bvn and phone number without spending any money sef.

If you have a banker friend in gt bank, go and meet the person and discuss your plight. They will help you with all those information.

Every customer details dey right there inside the computer. It depends on your rapport with them before they can show you those information.
Re: I Mistakenly Sent 69k To Someone Sad. by Stephen0mozzy: 6:45am On Mar 03
Too late to say this now, but ALWAYS, ALWAYS check the account information whenever you want to send money to someone.

That extra 30seconds of checking is better than 2weeks of being sent around the bush and wanting to be obtained by a lawyer - 30k for fees - I don't think the court will charge that much.

See it from the bank's perspective too, you could be trying to retrieve money from someone you actually did business with and paid.

Other reasons why you should check:
1. Make you no go put money for account wey dem dey monitor for previous crime.

That's why my caveat: "If they can guarantee he'd get his money back"
69-30=39, a net gain of N39K

If you're dealing with Fintechs like OPay or Moniepoint, it’s much easier. You can either log a formal complaint or simply copy the recipient's number and call them directly; they might just send it back. However, if it’s a commercial bank, things get tougher. In Nigeria, there’s always a way around these things. Try bargaining the price (40k) It’s better to spend 20k to ensure you get your 69k back than to lose everything.

That’s one of the importance of having an account officer..he/she would have put the credited account on lean and then contact the person. If he refuses to return the money then the court order will be applied..they charge 20k for that.

When an account is on lean mode, the receiver will not be able to withdraw the money.

Getting the phone number is good but the issue is this, will the person that received the money return it back, similar thing happened to me and the person refused to pay back, later he sent only half of the money kept the remaining. Some people are extremely wicked and heartless

Use the person's name to check his phone number

They should be a way.

Or check the NIN from NIN centres

Try something first

From the NIN you might get his phone number

Three weeks have passed. The person you sent the money to didn’t call the bank to rectify the error. It’s safe to say the man (mostly males) took it as a manifestation of God’s work and enjoyed himself.

Yes I contacted the bank immediately and the money was blocked but they need the person authorization or court order to send me the money back.
